Yet another disappoinment !!

I have now owned my 09 GS 1200 for just over 2 months now and yet again it's back on a recovery agents lorry headed for the dealer's. This time for something so simple i just can not believe it, i am due to set off from Portsmouth for a trip round Northumberland at 8am tomorrow morning so for the first time i topped up the rear tyre as it was a little low at 2.2bar so using a forecourt compressor system i carried out this most simple routine task, you'd think would'nt you !! I then filled up the tank and headed home 5 mins later warning light flashing RDC system indicating 1.5bar then down to zero !! Not a problem, i'll just call BMW emergency and have a tech sort it out oh no a recovery agent turns up saying he's got to recover it to the not so local dealer as it will (without even looking at it) be the TPM in the rear wheel. So once again the BMW has let me down as it will now not be ready for my scheduled departure. Why o why are things not simple on this model of the bike !!
Rant over,,,,,,,Really i'd quite happily just check my tyre pressures once a week rather than really on these very expensive gadgets (that i was atracted to when i bought the bike dooh).

So did you damage the valve when you did the tyre pressure ?

They're made of gruyere I'm told

My 1200gsa no ABS,no ESA,no tyre pressure sensors,im starting to feel glad i havent any of this electrickery.....Why could'nt you just leave it till you got back?assuming it was just the reading on the puter,or did the tyre actually deflate?..............

Ah, but if the tyre pressure sensor isn't working, how's he going to know if the pressure really IS going down and he has an accident. It's the sort of thing that the warranty people would have a field day with

Would it be reasonable to get a taxi/lift to the dealer tomorrow first thing and cajole them into fixing the sensor ASAP? If they start at 08:30, you mightn't lose too much time?

I'll see your 1200 with no ABS and raise it with an 1150GS, no ABS, no Servo, no FPC, no ring antenna and no Canbus

Dont understand really, its just an computer readout, if the tyre was ok why not leave it until the next service?

Was kind of thinking the same. I wouldn't let a sensor spoil my trip that's for sure. If it's pissing air out that's another matter.

Even then just pump it up and put a bit of chewing gum in the valve cap

When I ordered my 2010 GS in February it was bog standard except for heated grips, lowered, chrome exhaust and head guards.

1200 GS / GS1200 / R1200GS to be honest at the time of posting this It was lucky I did'nt refer to it as something really not very nice !!

I checked the OBC and it said 2.2bar so thought I best stick some extra in there as it was about to be loaded ready for a trip.

I will be at the dealers first thing tomorrow drinking copious amounts of thier coffee and looking longingly into the service area.

The thing that really gets me, is that chances are it's only what we used to call a "sticky valve" !!

Thing is I love the bike but it keeps letting me down and it's only just a year old !

Hi Rob, Arles sur tech,which as a "going to France newbie"is really SW i guess but hey,still looking forward to checking the area out,5 bikes riding down Tues,villa in the village then 9 days riding around,can not wait...........just hope my bike doesnt get washed away..........

If the tyre had pressure in why call recovery, after all if you checked the pressure you know its safe to ride. I take it your local BM dealer is Bahnstormers? You could have rode straight there and they would have sorted it for you no problem, no rant needed.

Ahh, but further west than my stomping ground. Still, a nice part of the world down there, lots of good roads in the Pyrenees. Should be grand.

TobyB the valve was completely f****d it was not keeping any pressure in and was hissing like a pissed off cobra ergo flat tyre and recovery called otherwise i would have simply rode it to Bahnstormers cept it was late afternoon and there would have been closed.

Thats a recovery job alright, What are the valves like? are they a standard schrader valve or sonething clever

Seem to be standard car type but with that TPM thingy on the otherside, As i said before if this was a non RDC bike i would have been able to fiddle with the inner element of the valve and sort it out by the roadside. But was told by BMW assist that it needs recovery to dealers bugger it !! there's alot to be said for keeping things simple.
