Yet another disappoinment !!

Yeah, they are made of cheese, I snapped the top off mine a while back. But I agree with the others, why get it recovered? - just go to watling tyres to stick a normal valve in for £10 or so and wait until the next service.
Its gonna cost you about £70! They won't cover it under warranty .... ;)

TobyB the valve was completely f****d it was not keeping any pressure in and was hissing like a pissed off cobra ergo flat tyre and recovery called otherwise i would have simply rode it to Bahnstormers cept it was late afternoon and there would have been closed.

Sorry Les, my fault should have been more supportive and kept me gob shut.

:blast

My 09 decided to leak air just after I checked the pressure at a garage. Rode it to my nearest tyre shop & the inner valve just needed tightening with a valve tightener, took ten seconds & no charge.

you dont need any of the shit thats stuck oour bike, i suspect you thought it was a bit flashy having all that.

shame you didnt read up about the bikes before you bought it,

oh well, another one bites the dust as they say.

yes its a R1200GS, but they are more commonly known as ''pieces of shit'':augie

Ah, but if the tyre pressure sensor isn't working, how's he going to know if the pressure really IS going down and he has an accident.

:

Jesus H christ, how do you think millions of bikes over a period of 100 years have managed "to know" if the tyre pressure is low without an onboard computer. :D

R100g/s

na, dont think euan and charlie used one of them, so as far as the usual 1200 owner is concerned they either

1)dont exist
2)have more than 1500 miles on the clock so must be bolloxd
3)wouldnt get any kudos points from their mates
4)far to complicated
5)far to antiquated
6)cant get a ''race can to fit''
7)need more than a weeks DAS course to ride one

My 1200gsa no ABS,no ESA,no tyre pressure sensors,im starting to feel glad i havent any of this electrickery.....Why could'nt you just leave it till you got back?assuming it was just the reading on the puter,or did the tyre actually deflate?..............:Motomartin

I'll second that one seems to have saved cash during purchase and grief ever since :rob

Irony failure alert!!! The stupidity of the situation is that someone has had to sit down and work out that, if the tyre sensor isn't working, the bike should be recovered because they can't trust the rider to notice if the tyre really might be going flat :blast

I'm with you on this: the less gimmickery the better. Then again, even the FI on my 1150 makes me wary, but carbs aren't my favourite to work on either, so I reckon that it's a happy medium :D Even then, if I was seriously considering an RTW, I'd be looking for an R100 GS paralever.

Anyway, hopefully the OP is now safely on his way with a working sensor and an airtight valve.

I just hope my temperature gauge never fails, otherwise I won't know which pair of gloves to put on.

ah.. ummm... I can recall he number of times I rode around with not enough air in the tyres. 1100 miles in Scotland last week*. About another 1000 miles from Italy, through SoF back to England with a rear puncture , very slowly leaking air*. Riding to work in London, guy in car points out my rear tyre is kaput.
Front end very low due to puncture whilst travelling through some forests in the Jura mountains, not helped by it only being 4-5 degrees*.

Meh, unless the tyre is dragging the bike heavily just ride around it :thumb

* - Different bikes, but only noticed very slightly different handling. Perhaps its because I stick to same road specific tyres on every bike.

And the dealer looked at me like i was a tit when i said i didn't want any bells or whistles, seems like i made the right decision after all:comfort

I was told by my local dealer that 1200's without all the electronic options are virtually a special order as everyone orders all the 'packs' (or more likely the dealers order all their stock 'fully loaded' as there's more profit in them ;) )

I dread to think what all this crap is going to cost subsequent owners in a few years time when it all starts going wrong - ESA shocks at £1000+ each end and you have to have them as they're tied into the ECU?....

I knew I should have tried to find an 1100 without an RID.... :D
