Yorkhill Easter Egg Run 2011

The Yorkhill Easter Egg Motorbike Run has been a tradition in Glasgow for over ten years, and to many bikers, is the unofficial start of the biking season. Thousands of motorbikes gather every Easter Sunday to take part in a huge procession through the west end of Glasgow, culminating at Yorkhill Hospital, where they drop off Easter Eggs and donations for the sick children.
You don't want to miss this spectacular event. Get your bike out, get it polished and ready and join the procession of 3000 motorbikes, trikes and quads winding their way through the west end of Glasgow to the children at Yorkhill Hospital.

The Run has raised over £130,000 over the years, with £12,500 being raised in 2010. This year, with Yorkhill Children's Foundation celebrating its tenth anniversary, the aim is to top £30,000 in donations! A donation page has been set up on Justgiving.com for those who wish to donate online - please click here. Or you can text “yorkhill egg” to 70003 to give £3. Or just donate on the day!
There's a new route for 2011, with the old traditional start point of Kelvin Way being resurrected. A 6.5 mile run will wind through the west end of Glasgow, up Great Western Road and down Crow Road towards Yorkhill Hospital. The Route http://www.independentphoto.co.uk/yeer/2011 route.pdf

Any questions? Call us on 0141 201 6917 or 0141 201 0723 or email on [email protected].

And for the first time, bikers are required to pre-register to take part in the event, paying a £5.00 donation, which will go straight to Yorkhill Children's Foundation. A strict limit of 3,000 vehicles has been imposed. You MUST register to take part in the official run.

368 registered so far

I've just registered for the run. Figured its £5 to a good cause so no loss if the weather turns out real bad on the day and I decide not to go. Only 368 registered so far - I thought there would be more but theres still 3 weeks to go.

I thought there would have been more as well. A lot of folk seem to be miffed that the Police want the run limited to 3,000, hence the registering. They would normally get well over that so not sure what will happen on the day. They already have 1,200 friends on Facebook, maybe 2/3rds are on to moan.

Police bikes might end up thin on the ground with both the Blue Knights run (which they normally escort) the Yorkhill run and my friend is at a Bikesfae course in East Kilbride that day which means other members of the bike team will be there.

Skye and I will go regardless of the weather, but not sure if I will make it in time for the Yorkhill run as we are going on the Blue Knights CHAS Robin House run starting at BMW Bishopbriggs first. Still registered for the Yorkhill run anyway.

Bikesafe is the week before. Sunday 17Th April @ Jackton.

I'm going to the blue knights run instead. I'm not willing to risk my clutch in the big run. Been on it a few times, I think the registration and limits have put a lot of people off what has always been a fab day out. Shame, it's for such a good cause. However, Robin house is equally as deserving.

I know what you mean about the clutch, the speed (or more the total lack of it) the last time I went was a right pain in the butt.

I have heard loads of pros and cons about registration and do feel it has put people off what has been a great day out.

I am now getting concerned that the Robin House run (which is normally around 100 bikes) is going to get totally flooded with bikes which will probably bring Balloch to a standstill. I don't know if the CHAS organisers realise that somebody on the CHAS run has made an open invite, to all bikers on the Yorkhill Facebook Discussion page, to join the CHAS Robin House run

I may just be being blind/oblivious but I can't find any information on the Robin House run at all. Can any of you point me in the direction of the details?

There's also another run leaving the Falkirk wheel and going to the Crieff hospice. More convenient for those from those from the east. Don't know any more details but I know it's happening.

Nope, the info has been on display at Motorrad Central Bishopbriggs for the past month or so :thumb

Thank you very much for the info! Turns out I was just being oblivious. It'll be my first one. Looking forward to it!

The following has just been posted on Yorkhill Easter Egg Run

Hi folks. Online registration is now closed. If you haven't yet registered, the kids at Yorkhill would love to see you and your motorbikes tomorrow. Participation will be on a first come, first served basis with a £5 cash donation, from 9am on Kelvin Way (enter from University Avenue). I've processed 659 registrations ...so there's plenty of capacity for you to come and join us. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Thanks,

Abigail :)

Looks like they are well short of the 3,000 registration limit that was imposed by the Police. Hope the weather is better than today, though its nice now.

I have just read the report that was made on the Yorkhill Easter Egg run, by the Glasgow Evening Times. It has a couple of inaccuracies and I wonder where Caroline Wilson got her source of information. Actually, the run was started in the early eighties by the Mercury MCC, Glasgow, so it has been running for more than 25 years. You will find a brief history of the run on the www.mercurymcc.org website. There you will aslo find a photo of the very first Easter Egg run with the bkes outside the City Chambers, Glasgow. :)
