You couldn't make it up...

It's the BMW way - try & bat the problem away into the long grass, in the hope you will go away.

I'm afraid it's several calls each day to Marshalls DP, BMWFS & BMWCS - record names, times & content to provide a data footprint. Write, a detailed letter expressing your dissatisfaction to BMW Motorrad UK MD, copy to FS, copy to Marshalls DP. Make sure they understand that you expect a bike underneath you early next month for your pre-booked trip without fail, be it a replacement or a loan bike, or compo sufficient to hire a suitable replacement elsewhere. After all they have had 2 months grace already. Don't back down on the valuation issue either - it's just a stunt to worry you financially, in the hope it will persuade you to live with the original faulty bike.

Good luck. Keep the pressure on, but make sure to keep the dialogue civil, however maddening things become.

Thanks for the comments all, it seems that with this 6 way conversation (Me, Williams, Marshall, BMWFS, BMW UK, BMW Germany) that everyone is standing there citing the "process" and noones willing to bend over backwards. Not a single suggestion of a resolution has been made despite me making suggestions of my own.

It seems noone at BMW (at any level) has any desire to make this anything short of as painful and time consuming as possible, which sadly is the ongoing theme since buying the bike. The dealers themselves have always been pleasant to deal with but it seems that noone is willing to go out on a limb to offer help.

I've been in contact with BMW CS online and on the phone and I just get fobbed off by being told it needs to wait for BMW FS to make a decision and this will take "some time to complete".

What do they mean make a decision? They’ve already started the rejection process. I assume the bike is financed, as you’ve mentioned BMWFS, so can’t you just start a new agreement on a new bike, and get them to cancel the finance off?

They’ve said the only way to sort it is to change the bike, so tell them to fucking well get on with it.

I'd go on the trip, ride it like I stole it, then sell/px/hand back/whatever to be shut of the thing. Then start afresh.

Not convinced your getting an accurate or full story. The pairing memory of blue tooth devices will only be handled by 1 component. It literally only has to record the info in Nvram in the dash, the Bluetooth itself is working fine. It can be a fundamental flaw in as much as they don’t have an answer to why it happens software wise but as it’s not common to every bike it’s BS to tell you it can’t be fixed. I do not buy for one minute that it’s not fixable by component change and the fault is so deep rooted that the bike is doomed.

I would speak directly to bmw if at all possible and not the dealer. It smells a bit like a constructive unwillingness somewhere more than an unable to me. Maybe don’t share the ongoing story on forums until you get an outcome, if you get what I’m saying.

Hi pal, this problem is pretty much on all of the new 1250's with the tft's its done the same on mine since day one...i only connect my phone to my scala now i reside myself to the fact that im riding a fooking brilliant bike that also has shit bluetooth abilities.
Take your trip, ride your bike and fook everything else :thumby:

Thanks for that info!

I've been told that if there is a shortfall it's for me to fund, also I've been told that if a like for like replacement cannot be found and a new bike has to be supplied, I will also need to fund the difference.

That's a perfectly normal position for BMW to take as they will say you have had 2400 miles worth of use out of the bike !

Good advice right there :thumby:

Apparently just because BMW UK say it needs to be replaced, BMWFS need to decide if I have grounds under the sale of goods act, despite me pointing out I don't actually want to reject it, I'm doing whats been advised.

I couldn't agree more, bikes aren't my speciality but tech certainly is. I refuse to believe that there are no parts that can be replaced to rectify the issue, it seems unbelieve that an entire bike has to be replaced to get to the bottom of a bluetooth problem. Unfortunately any attempt to speak to BMW UK directly halts at the customer service number and I'm referred to my dealer or they tell me someone will call back, and it's the dealer who does.

Also I get your point about the sharing of the ongoing story etc etc, noted!

Maybe could be lastminute help. BMW release latest firmware on 16th July.

As suggested it could be a componeent fault but given the actual cost of repair may as in insurance, exceed the basic value of the bike to BMW.

If you have legal cover with either your bike insurance or house insurance let them sort it.

Make it clear to BMW that you are suffering loss of amenity and will require comensurate compensation.

Yeah it's possible, the bikes got to be worth £15k still (forecourt price) so I can't see how any single component would be classed as not cost effective. BMW UK were told it "cannot" be fixed by BMW Germany, or at least thats the story I've been told.

I'm lucky that BMW HQ and BMWFS are about 5 miles down the road. If this happened to me, I'd just go down there, park it in front of the front door, give the keys to reception and cancel the DD. If you have it in writing from BMW that they have started the process, that's good enough for me. ;)

What concerns me is what BMW will do with the bike if/when they take it back!
Will they just stick it in the showroom for some punter to have all these troubles again??

4 weeks tomorrow since I last spoke to the dealer or BMW FS and aside from a letter telling me BMW FS have 8 weeks to make a decision I've not even had so much of a courtesy call from anyone. I could chase them, but after 9 months of jumping through every hoop they put in front of me, I'm done.

Well this thread has come to a conclusion now, and not in a good way.

Marshalls of Grimsby have been absolutely awful to get a response from, even despite dealing with the dealer principal. BMW Finance were supposed to make a decision on the rejection and the guy who was doing that is now on annual leave. However I have now been told that after 7 weeks of deliberaton, BMW Finance have decided that my bluetooth problems do not warrant a rejection of the bike.

I did point out that it was no me that wanted to reject it, but this was what I was told I had to do by Marshall.

Basically I've been told that the bike cannot be replaced (despite what allegedly BMW UK said) and that I'm effectively stuck with the bike and that MAYBE in the future a fix will be found for the issue but until then, tough titties.

Thanks to everyone that posted and commented with help! :)

It’s not for bmw finance to decide , it is consumer law , tell them to solve it or shove , see you in court .

What software version in the TFT are you running?

There is a new update 022 005 041 which is available in the UK which does cure the Bluetooth/Connectivity issues.

Well talked about on the R1200 R1250 RS forum
