You couldn't make it up...

.....
To say I'm fuming is an understatement. It's almost like they didn't read any of the info I provided to them, and I assume that is the case because otherwise they are implying that my iPhone, 14miles away from the dealer, not paired to the TFT, was the cause of 2 Samsung phones they tried being "forgotten" by the TFT. Not to mention the headsets that were also forgotten.

...

It’s unfortunate but it’s a standard response so that nothing is put in writing that could be construed as an admission on their side of a fault that would open them to multiple claims.

At this point I’m beginning to think the fault may be partially hardware or in an area they don’t control (low level TFT firmware from manufacturer).

If the problem was purely just coding on their side I would like to think they would have fixed it by now. Perhaps there is no budget to fix it as it’s all going to the development of the new TFT.

If the new TFT comes out with full featured navigation built in then they better have it fixed.

Personally I would like them to just put in apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These have a nice defined set of requirements on how to deploy them and people are used to them at this point plus you could have a choice of Nav app. Even if this would be a cost option to add I would still choose it.

Reading this thread makes me think it time to go back to the good. Old Autocom. :okay

I’d go to Citizens Advice and get some basic legal advice. My basic understanding is you’ve been sold something that isn’t fit for purpose and you can demand a refund or replacement. Your first point of contact is the dealer, you shouldn’t even be talking to BMW. I’d also think about threatening them with contacting the bike press.

This is disgusting to say the least
Ive got a simular problem in another thread, which after a 3 hour software update did nothing to improve the TFT to nav phone headset it was the same and was told by the Techy "Ive no idea mate" which after spending over £20K was a piss take at best

I tried a Samsung S10 which seems to be working fine so far connecting to everything and playing music nav and stays connected to the App for longer than 2 minutes using the pairing procedure listed on youtube by Nick above which I found great

hopefully it will stay connected Ok ive now got an Iphone 11 XLpro for everyday life and a Samsung S10 for use on the bike and I divert all calls from the Iphone to the Samsung when I go out on the bike !! a load of faf but its working so far !!

Might be an idea to see if a fellow tosser has an S10 that lives near you to try to connect and try it, they are not the muts nuts but it seems to work in my bike, just an idea but it may work

on another note BMW have sold you a bike that is not fit for the purpose in which it was intended, stated in the sales of goods act 1979, 1982 and 2015 so it needs to be rectified or replaced end of storey, they also have a duty of care to their customers to ensure they are happy with the product they have purchased and that it is functioning as entended.

I would insist it was repaired or replaced and as above a solicitors letter does go a long way, it says you mean business, it is a must that you make a list of all phone calls time and date them list the content and get names of who you spoke, more good advice from above

they cant get out of it by saying its only the bluetooth, the bluetooth is part of what made the decission for me buying mine !! so bollocks to that old chestnut thats like saying its only the gearbox push the bike around !!

you have a bit more clout as the bike is on finance with BMW

ill watch this thread as I have already told my dealer that if this issue persists they will be having the bike back and ill want a cheque for the full amount that I paid for the bike to which they agreed !!

Hope either the phone or BMW sorts this out for you mate

I’m not so sure it’s a parts or dealer fix as yet. Bluetooth and ant+ connections to external devices and phones seems as buggy as hell across many manufacturers.

I have had 3 different cycling based nav devices
( 2x Garmin, 1x Karoo)and the bmw nav 5 and they all have problems with not connecting, dropping connections, not re connecting etc to phones and sensors to varying degrees. My Karoo has had multiple firmware updates which are supposed to fix it but don’t. I also know owners of other motorcycle brands who have the same Bluetooth issues with phones or Go pro connections.

A few seem to get lucky and be issue free but the forums for these devices are thick with connection issues. When the dealer says I dunno mate, whilst not diplomatic, I believe him totally. The technology seems to be fickle at best and the OS ( where the issue likely lies ) beyond the devs at the moment. I read that a new version of my Karoo is out with dual band Bluetooth to fix the issues. But a look today shows the forum thick with connection issues So another fail.

I think the fix lies with the software developers and it might not be quick in coming. Your dealer could replace parts or the bike and you get lucky or you could switch brand and get lucky but none of them have nailed this stuff completely yet.

The bluetooth part of it is all wizzardry and does seem very hit and miss to say the least !!
