Young German girl had her bike stolen in Edinburgh.... anyone of assistance?

Bit late now as only just noticed this. I'm just south of Edinburgh so if I can be of any help anyone in contact with the poor girl let me know. My wife rides bikes to and can order dinner in German so could possibly converse! Could probably store the bike for a bit to save any costs for her.

Been four German's bikes and two Italian's bikes stolen from south of Edinburgh in the last 12 months that I know of, plenty more mentioned on facebook.

Great to hear that Schtum's been in contact with Maike.

Thank you for your efforts mate....I felt a bit helpless where I am but at least I got some contacts her way.

Cheers all involved. :thumb

Just had a PM on ADVrider from Bootlace which explains the email problem.

It says...

"Man! It's. maialb161@yahoo(dot)de

How could I have fucked that up?

As for the phone, not too sure I've never tried ringing or texting.

I should mention that I'm in the Italian Alps at the moment, and relying on wifi when available.

Last report was this morning and she said the bike had a flat rear tyre, battery gone, ignition broken (?), fuel lines ripped off and big dents in the tank. "

Again,cheers guys.

With the numbers of bikes being stolen - these things are going to be uninsurable soon.

I've had some texts and e-mails from Maike. In an e-mail just now she tells me that Saltire Motorcycles need to order parts to repair her bike and it'll be Monday or Tuesday before they arrive.

She's booked into hostel accommodation until Friday. My son has offered her the use of their spare room in their flat in Edinburgh's New Town and I'd sent her his contact details so she's e-mailed him to confirm that she'd like to stay with them.

Alles ist gut....:thumb

Can we get a picture of this damsel in distress, then we can have a whip round if she's tasty.:D

How much are the repairs? Worth organising a whip round? I'd happily contribute

That's very thoughtful and generous. If folks want me to find out, I'll happily enquire of Maike whether or not she's having to pay for the repairs or if her insurance is covering it.

Maike's going round to my son and his partner's place tomorrow morning. I've asked him to find out whether or not she's going to have to pay for the repair or if her insurance will cover it. I appreciate the folks might still want to have a whip round for her. From her texts and e-mails, she's clearly a very communicative young lady who's very grateful for the help she's received so far.

just seen this. good on you guys for helping out. mike i still have that rear tyre you gave me, if it will fit, and possibly a spare battery. what bike was she riding?

I'm at the wrong end of the country to be of any real help, but glad to chip in a few bob to help out if anyone's organising a whip round. If we can do it for Margus and Karina and Fanum then why not anyone else ?

Well done to all those who have been generous with your help so far, it restores ones faith in human nature and all that's good about motorcycling.

Thanks Gordon. She's on a Yamaha 125 Custom single, so the parts are probably not compatible and I believe Saltire have ordered up parts to fit. A bit of a feat to ride that from Germany and she's already been all the way up to John O' Groats. Thanks for the offer though.

Keep us informed Schtum, will happily chuck some dosh towards her excess or repair bill.
I used to be a cop in Edinburgh and it astounded me that there was no real deterrent to these fuckers except violence and that stopped overnight with the advent of mobile phone cameras. Not that I ever took summary justice out on the wee shits, Honest Guv. Lol

what a bloody shame. it's an embarrassment. i hope the girl gets everything sorted out and can continue her trip, and good to hear saltire are on the case. hopefully your kindness sorting the accommodation, and help getting the bike fixed goes some way to restore her faith in the Scots people. What a disgraceful state our capital is in for bikers, all caused by a handful of neds.
