6k miles of ownership of a 06 GSA problem free AND yesterday I ran into trouble
Just ridding home from work powering up a small hill I felt a very slight blip almost like a misfire thought nothing of it ,3minutes later it just died! The dash lights were lit
It kind of felt like I'd ran out of fuel the comp was saying I had 90miles before empty?
I switched it of and back on it turned over no problem what so ever but would not fire?after trying to start it 5/10times it started. And fired up I rev'd it once and I just died again ,so thought maybe it does need fuel??And the fuel gauge is playing up
Off I walked to the nearest petrol station filled a can came back emptied it into the bike.
And the same thing! Fired once now will not start again ? No I know there's feul init
It was serviced 2k mile ago,and has had all recalls done
Has anyone got any ideas??

It's very easy.

Left hand fuel tank inside the tank panel and on the top you'll see the FPC.

The connections have probably corroded so just get a new one and replace yours. I think the problematic ones are not potted or protected and a new one should be OK. Make a spare fail safe out of yours or simply keep a spare under your seat as I do.

The bike when turned on you should hear a worrrr from fpc, then if you've abs the buzz from that too ,if no fpc noise it's dead you have info above reply all the best getting sorted :)

Fuel pump uses the return flow to suck fuel from one side of the tank to the other. When it's pumping efforts weakens the engine runs but fuel doesn't get transferred.
Fuel pump controller or fuel pump.

Really really greatful for All your help guys checked for a "worrr" and nothing so I'm gonna source a fpc in the morning hopfully
Anyone know the cheapest place?

Lol I recently sold one £25 put a wanted ad up here you might get lucky,or try motorworks or James sherlocks for new/second hand good luck :)

Pop into your local BMW dealer and ask the workshop if they have any. I did and the very helpful technician popped one under my seat!! I was only after a duff one to wire up so you may be surprised..

You need to check the Throttle Position Sensor, Cam Position Sensor and Crank Position Sensors. One of them is bad, but easy to test with the GS911.

Jim

£100 down the drain! Fitted it this evening and still no joy...... GUTTED ( wonder if motorworks I'll take it bk now it's been opened):nenau:nenau

I'd hang onto it if your old ones original (has a date stamp) it's worth keeping a spare,Iv fitted a new black one on mine peace of mind when traveling.
Funny how my fuel gauge didn't always show full but now does after changing it ?

It could be fuel pump itself or as said above, but until you get the proper diagnostic tool on youll never know for def

UPDATE: and so on further inspection it would seem I've got a faulty fuel pipe and hadn't been seated properly in its location(the fuel pump) it was literally a 2second fix:blast
So! I've now got a spare FPC for sale if anyone's interested
(Checked the date on mine and its only been fitted 2years so clearly been replaced)
Many many thanks to everyone for your help and thoughts

I carry a spare all wrapped up and stored under the seat. Its one of those parts that if it breaks you're stuck going nowhere - same as with the ring antenna (immobiliser). I'd keep it if I were you.

If it wasn't fitted right get a new O ring as well I had leak probs with two on my tiger after taking the tank off,for the sake of couple £s worth buying Im going to go over mine though the winter powder coating parts, checking electrics etc.

Any chance of a fuller description, photos or point to something on the RepROM diagram? The symptoms you had pointed to the fpc but it would help others double check if they get similar symptoms in the future? Just a thought... :thumby:

I would hang on to it, no 1200 should leave home without a spare FPC.

Just for the record I paid £62 from the main dealer in 2010, so where the price hike for such a high volume part comes from is beyond me?

BMW actually take the piss out of taking the piss! :nenau
