My YouTube has switched the language from English to French.
I Googled this & on my profile checked the language settings, which are all set to English.
WTF do I need to do to fix it ?

Are you using a VPN? If so, the device possibly thinks you are in France.

I do have a VPN but it's still in French even with the VPN disabled !

clear/ delete you user history that should clear the VPN files that's causing the error

all of your internet history/cache

maybe some geolocation data stored within confusing the algorithm

also, try a different device/app/browser to diagnose if it is a problem with the Youtube account, a specific device or a specific app/browser

I can't help but I had a similar problem with Amazon tv, when it decided that my only option for subtitles when watching season 1 of Clarkson's farm was Malaysian. It didn't make Gerald any easier to understand.

The problem cured itself about 6 months later. No other programmes were affected.

Have you checked the language settings on your main gmail account?

I have a similar (less severe) issue where the emails YouTube sends me about my channel are in Italian.
This is because my main gmail account was originally in Italian language when I opened it one million years ago.

They still do this despite me switching to English as main language over 20 years ago.

I think in the main settings you have a way to “stack” languages: primary, secondary, etc.
Have a look, might be that.
