Zumo 500 won't accept maps from Mapsource

Hi guys,

I recently bought a reconditioned Zumo 500. It came with preloaded US maps, and a Mapsource DVD with City Navigator NT Europe. For a recent trip I deleted the US maps and transferred some mapping from Mapsource onto the device, enough to cover UK and northern France.

Also bought a 8MB SD card to accept the whole set, as I'm off to Greece in a few days. However now whenever I try to transfer maps to the SD card or the Zumo's onboard memory, after building index files etc. I get an error msg: "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device. The request could not be performed because of a I/O device error"

I'm having no problems seeing the Zumo and SD card in Windows Explorer, and Mapsource sees them too. Am I doing something basic wrong?

Two evenings left before leaving on my trip, all advice appreciated!

Many thanks,

Simon.

Do you really mean an 8 MB SD card? The whole of City Navigator Europe NT is now just a bit over 2 GB.

Also, you do have an unlock code for this copy of City Navigator and have the maps unlocked to your device.....?:nenau

Hi Schtum,

Oops yes that was 8GB not 8MB :blast

Yes I've got the unlock code for City Navigator. Will check the maps are unlocked to the device but I did sucessfully transfer maps for UK and France last month, which is why I'm wondering why it's not working now.

Regards,

Simon.

Got it now

Just to close the thread. Later last night I managed to download a few map cells. Any bigger mapsets and the download was rejected - regardless of whether going to the Zumo or the SD card.

Today I installed Mapsource onto a PC at work, and have just successfully downloaded the whole of Europe to the SD card. Took 1.5hrs though :mmmm

Hypothesis: problem transferring larger files lies not with my Zumo but with my 7-year-old Sony Vaio desktop :augie

Still, I'm all set for my departure to Greece on Saturday now. Tosser on tour ahoy :bounce1
