Has anyone used Garmin repair services for an out-of-warranty repair?

I'm thinking how quickly it happens, and what the service is like?

I have a Zumo 550 and the touch screen has gotten scratched up and is starting to go a bit crazy.

I would potentially renew but I've just bought new maps :(

Any other suggestions welcome :thumb2

Some while ago I read on zumo forums (www.zumoforums.com - search in the general 550 section) of some sellers in HK or China who were selling replacement screens for not very much on eBay. The thread had reports from several folk who had successfully replaced their duff screen with one of these eBay items.

Otherwise, I think it will be a case of returning it to Garmin...

In my experience Garmin offer a world class warranty and repair service. Shame their products are not so good. I've had four units replaced or repaired, my current one (No5) a 660, now turns off for no apparent reason!

I recently sent my four + year old 550 for repair.. the screen stopped responding.. and the hard buttons started to fall out...

Garmin quoted me a standard repair charge of £112....

They sent me a brand new 660, plus all the extras that come in the box, plus they had already tranfered my NuMaps bought for the 550 over to the new 660, I'm very pleasd with the result.

The 660 is turning out to be a very good unit.

Cheers folks, much appreciated :thumb2
