Howdy

Ive had this unit for some years now, use it very little, took it out to get it charged up and ready, to see the screen isnt working whatsoever, anyone any solutions? ive seen a thread on advrider to replace the digitizer but doesnt make it clear that they are having the same problem as the touch function on the screen packing in altogether???

Cheers

Removing and replacing the battery can sometimes fix blank/frozen screen issues

Yes, as above. My 550 does it once in a while. You'll need a tiny, tiny allen key to get the battery off. It's never 'not worked' for me. :thumb2

Mine freezes occasionally, usually on a hot day when I'm coming into a strange city :blast I suppose it's because the processor starts working overtime with all the new info?

Anyway, removing and replacing the battery always fixes it. I cut down a little allen key and keep it under the top cover held in with a bit of blue tack.

Sounds like the "remove battery" will solve your problem as I had the same problem and popping the battery out fixed it.
I've replaced the LCD/digitizer on two Zumo's and it's easy enough, but I don't think you'll need to do that.

Unfortunately removing and installing battery was the first thing I did to no avail
If the little ribbon cable were to unseat it would explain it or the digitizer were to fail. If you want send the unit down to me and I'll fit the spare digitizer to it just to rule that out, if it fixes it you can cover the €30 for a new digitizer....... :nenau

Thanks for the help guys, and thanks for the offer Daithi, i said for a few quid i'd order the digitizer off fleabay and try it anyway, i'll see how i go

Mark, I have used a guy over in City West to upgrade the maps on both my old Garmin units. He seems to know a lot about them. Let me know if you need his details.

send it back to garmin with £110 and they will send you a refurb unit, my screen froze then wouldnt turn on etc, refurb unit is as good as a brand new item and hasnt failed yet, dont listen to the crap that they will send you a 660 replacement :blagblah cause they wont, you cant even pay a bit extra for a 660, if you send them a faulty 550 you will get a refurb 550 back, send them a faulty 660 and get a refurb 660 back
