Having searched this section, the last comment I can find to my question was a long time ago when there were fewer 660's actually being used and therefore little available feedback. So my question is - just how secure is a 660 in the standard cradle that comes with the unit? If I upgrade from my 550 to a 660 I want to be able to use it on both of my bikes, so an expensive option gets even more expensive if I need to buy more secure mounts such as from TT. Is there any means of locking the push button on the standard cradle in any way to prevent the unit coming off accidentally?

I'm not worried about theft as I will always take the unit off the bike when I'm not riding it, but am only concerned about how secure the unit is when on the move. I won't be going off road, so tarmac and the occasional jarring pothole needs to be considered.

Thanks in advance.

never had any issues with mine in several thousand (road) miles.

Same here….very secure.

No problems at all, in over 20k miles of abuse.

Had my 660 since May 2009 and is now fitted to my GS which has now covered 13k + miles with no problems at all with the cradle security :thumb

I've binned the bike a few times with the 660 in the cradle.
Never come out yet.

So long as you make sure it's in properly, it's not coming out by accident.

Thanks everyone for the input. It sounds a viable option for me to upgrade as I have a Zumo 550, TT lockable mount and cradles, wiring etc for two bikes to recoup part of the cost of the 660. If I had to buy extra mounts to make them secure from falling off while on the move I would'nt be doing it. Good suggestions on tethering as well which satisfies my paranoia admirably.

Also, if you don't put it in the cradle properly, it may fall out as soon as you take the bike off the stand, and clatter across the garage forecourt.........so I'm told.......apparently.......ahem.

Thanks - I did that with the 550 once - luckily I have put some old carpet on my garage floor:)

done ~30k miles with the standard mount, probably 10,000 of those off road - never had a problem. It never looks or feels secure, but it actually is!!

Depending how much of a rush you are in I may have a 2nd cradle etc available in a couple of months time ( markie underscore wales at hotmail dot com ).

cheers

Markie
