Zumo 660 first impressions

Thanks, ned-diddly-idlly.

It seems it does work, despite the manual (that I can see :nenau) not referring to it, and neither the UK or US tech support peeps knowing about it. The UK one even put me on hold, while he 'investgated' it. I suspect he couldn't find his ar5e with both hands, but hey ho...

Anyhow, it only works when the turn icon is in the top left corner, as 'rob mac' kindly revealed. If you tap the top left without it there, it just brings up the list of directions, but no repeat voice commands.

That's where I was going wrong - previous Garmins repeated the 'searching for satellites' and 'ready to navigate' voices, whereas this Zumo only repeats valid turn directions/instructions once you've set a route, and consequently, when I've been testing it, I haven't waited for the turn icon, or even moved off the sofa :toungincheek

I am indebted to you all, thank you :bow

Hmmm cancel that ..worked a couple of times then stopped !!! must have been coincidence, sorry. But definately has the function..just seems to be intermittent.

Mine's OK now, but it can be a couple of seconds between tapping the turn icon and it repeating the instruction.

Might have a fiddle with the other voice languages later, just to prove a point.

Thanks for the tip, anyhow :clap

:topic Yonkyo, where did you get that tinted adv screen from??

From your local BuMW dealer. they are available as an optional extra.:thumb

they dont do tinted winglets yet though:(

Just as a follow up...The Zumo is fantastic BUT be very careful when carrying it around ....that BIG screen is very vunerable I am now on my second one having cracked the screen on the first one...DON'T put it in your pocket.
I'm now in Peru on a round the world trip and the Zumo is my best buddy, not just for navigation, the MP3 player installed in it has a great speaker which is perfect for playing tunes in your hotel room/tent or even for livening up a dull silent restaurant as I found in Abancay, Peru, and obviously great with headphones on the bike...:thumb

p.s to Garmin ..you need to improve on/off switch...please.
