The old mapping can be removed from there by the usual methods.

Which is?
Talking about maps going back to 2008.... how do I get rid of them from the drop down list on road trip?

Austria and Italy are included in Western Europe, Czech Republic isn't though.
The whole of the Czech Republic is 77MB in 2013.10, this would fit in alongside Western Europe as the primary mapping on a Zumo 660. You'd need to use MapInstall or Mapsource to generate the required file.
As a practice I downloaded the Western Europe portion to the 660, then used mapinstall for Croatia / Slovenia / BiH and Serbia without too much grief.
The "map info" screen shows the above have been installed, just need to try downloading a route that crosses all the options to see if it's a seamless process.
Don't know about Macs, you're on your own on that one![]()
On a Windows PC just use the 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel. each map-set is listed separately. Surely Macs have something similar, I thought they were meant to be user friendly![]()

So, after more than a day spent messing around trying to get all of Europe (City Navigator NT Europe 2013.10) onto my Zumo, I have to concede defeat.
I have the whole 2013.10 loaded onto my Mac with no probs, and this shows OK in Base Camp.
However, at present, on the Zumo I have the NT Europe 2012, which shows all the countries, including Northern Europe, Western Europe and Eastern Europe etc. So how come , all of a sudden the 2013 Europe NT is unable to fit onto a Zumo 660 ?
What is the point ? I have a Lifetime Maps guarantee, but can't use it apart from "some " of Europe .
I will be travelling across Western Europe, down into Slovenia, Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia, and maybe Montenegro. Might even touch Bulgaria and Romania again on the way back.
Next year may go North up through Finland and Eastern Baltic. But it would appear that I'm unable to fit this modest trip/s onto my Zumo 660. WTF are Garmin playing at ? There is no other motorbike Garmin with a larger memory that I know of; a little iPod or iPhone can pack away about 16 Gig of ram, so why not a Zumo ?
Their poxy download system says insufficient space on the Zumo, despite chucking out all un-needed voices, vehicles, JPEGs etc.
What Garmin do NOT say is how big each Region Map is, and so I am unable to calculate exactly which map/s will or will not fit onto the Zumo. Crazy crazy Garmin......they really do not want to make life easy for the poor consumer.
I have had my Zumo for maybe 3 summers now, and overall been pretty good- it's their software and downloads that make me curse - every time. Why are Garmin so inept at making user friendly map downloads and updates.![]()
Hi Sleepy,
yes, Map Install does something similar, but is very unfriendly to use, and its "lassooing" procedure just laughable.....
As you may have gathered, I'm on a Mac, so Mapsource not readily available to me ( don't use BootCamp or Fusion etc !).
Although I know there are "ways around" the map size problem, I suppose the nub of my argument is just "why" ? Why should we have to jump through hoops simply because Garmin either can't be arsed, or is incapable of making map updates and downloads a simple procedure.
When running Lifetime Updater, when it shows the options for the alternative smaller maps (eg W Europe, or Eastern or Central Europe), why can it not indicate map sizes at that point, and one can thus assess how much space is either available or needed to load specific map/s ?
The easier Garmin can make it, the more maps they are likely to sell, and the more customer/brand loyalty they build up .
I've paid for my Lifetime Updates, and now I can't update like for like - looks like a serious retrograde step to me, but what do I know .....I'm just a customer.
Garmin Map Upgrade or root canal work - just let me think about that for a moment before I decide please.![]()
Download selection number 2 from the drop down. It covers Western Europe. Add the maps you need (provided you need them) onto an SD card. Job done.
I agree with you that Garmin should state that the whole map won't fit on the standard unit to save them and the users a lot of grief.
Seems rather silly all the grief in having to have all four corners of Europe on the GPS, when most of the time it isn't going outside of a 750 miles from the ferry port.

And then they should'phone Apple and ask them how they can make 32 Gig of RAM available in the modestly sized iPhone. Just a suggestion Mr Garmin.
