Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

Thanks LBL -maybe I might give it a go then !
Looks like I could live with the Blue Note, but it seems like you loose the "Street" banner at the top of the screen ? Does this appear when you start moving, or is that the point of the "More Map Mode" ?

Roger,

No it does not appear on the move, as you said, its in more map mode providing errrr more of the map :)

The street banner is still there on both other modes tho :thumb2 with the only differance on the original mode to the screen being the music icon.

I like the more map mode.

Well my update seems to have gone OK. Removed 8GB mirco SD card, did upgrade, switched off / on a few times, all OK. Re-inserted card (with nearly 8GB of music on it) all still seems to be OK after a few of/on cycles. Not used in anger yet - will be this w/e.

So a little confidence booster to the wary out there.

cheers

Well the upload went seamlessly enough and was bloody quick as well. I had pulled out the SD card prior to the upload and then put it back afterwards. I have just been out for a 20 mile test and this is certainly a big improvement. :bounce1 Interestingly, there is no sign of the apparently persistant Blue Note symbol which I assume is because my SD card is currently empty. :nenau I love the More Map screen and everything seems a lot quicker and smoother.

One last comment. I have only just ugraded from my Zumo550 (thank you Nick Marshall :thumb) so I can't be sure if the 'Reroute' symbol is new to the upgrade version?

Yes it is. I've not yet worked out when it is displayed, as it seems to come and go.

I'll try removing my SD card and see if that does away with the Blue Note :thumb2

Having read all the concerns here and elsewhere I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to 3.8, first removing the microSD card...

First impressions? I like!:thumb2

FINALLY they've put the map scale back on the screen :clap

More map view is fab, more like the 2610 ratio, I can see further ahead now ;)

Guess I'd better go for a ride and see how it performs. No power down issues yet :augie

The More Map view is nice, but loses the next turn box, which is just plain crazy for me, but others might not be bothered :)

Slight correction to my comment above, there is now an option in More Map to select a Next Turn Icon for one of the 3 boxes. However to give you an Icon and a Distance to the next turn therefore takes 2 of 3 boxes.

So I'll stick with More Data, which gives you 4 boxes, plus the above icon & distance, making in theory 6 boexs ( + time =7) :)

works for me

did it with 8Gb SD card in (Kingston)

worked first time
quick set up
no problems

I like the more data view myself
new to gps so can't compare to other systems as I always used a phone and torrented the various software packages to it ..:augie

this gives me a good routing setup at home (mapsource) plenty of configurable boxes and a good sized screen and tunes....

just need to try and get the newer maps working in mapsource now as since I upgraded - they stopped :augie

Hi Funrider,

Ive looked through and cant see how to activate the next turn icon on more map view, pray tell :)

:) It took me time to find.

It's one of the selectable options when you tap on one of the 3 customisable boxes, but you have to do it while your 660 is in active Navigation Mode.

Looks like I could live with the Blue Note, ?

Stating what should be the obvious... I expected the blue note to be more use... ie touch it and it takes you to the music.... but no such luck....unless of course it does and I haven't configured it right...

Just travelled back from south Wales to Weymouth with the update installed.

My Zumo switched itself off when I detoured from it's suggested route for the second or third time.

Just updated my Nav IV ... first impressions of 'more map' are good :thumb

Need to try it out on the 'bike now though :)

BUT ... a quick play in the back garden reveals that when I want to scroll across the map by dragging the finger across the screen it goes straight to the 'save' menu!

If I touch the screen elsewhere other than my home it goes straight to the 'save' screen ... i.e. my home and not where I touched!

Zoomed right out wanting to scroll down to Morocco to see if my Topo maps work there OK and generally have a look round. It went straight to 'save' screen menu, for my home again!

Been using 3.80 for a few days now all was great (like the new features/options) This morning as I kill the power to the zumo it shut down, not switching to battery power and asking if I want to shut down as it normally does. The battery was fully charged, so I'll keep my eye out for any updates to 3.80, but unless it gets very much worse I'm happy overall with the update. I'll try a few more power offs over time and see if it was a one off or consistent.

cheers

When in the 'save' menu screen you can drag the map around. At least you can on my 660 with the 3.8 update.

Mmmmm but when I zoom out to make the British Isles smaller, so that I can scroll across, to say Germany, it goes to the save mode zoomed right in to my home (or wherever I am I would guess) It'll be a faddle scrolling across screen after screen to get me the Schwarzwald

I guess I need to try it in the field ... so to speak :)

Probably a stoopid question... but when you touch the screen to 'drag', do you start at 'your' icon? 'cos if you do, thatwould always offer 'save' as first option (same as 'mark' in all previous versions) if not, try re-sync-ing screen?

Nah ... big fat finger anywhere on screen and drag... goes to a zoom in of my home location (only place I've tried it, but doesn't seem right) and asks me if I want to save it!
