Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

Mmmmm but when I zoom out to make the British Isles smaller, so that I can scroll across, to say Germany, it goes to the save mode zoomed right in to my home (or wherever I am I would guess) It'll be a faddle scrolling across screen after screen to get me the Schwarzwald

I guess I need to try it in the field ... so to speak :)
:beerjug:

Nah ... big fat finger anywhere on screen and drag... goes to a zoom in of my home location (only place I've tried it, but doesn't seem right) and asks me if I want to save it!
:beerjug:

I touched the base map screen. It goes into 'Save' mode, just as you said.

I then zoomed out, so that instead of looking at central London I was looking at a view of the whole of Europe including north Africa. This was 16 hits on the minus button.

I could then, with light touch of my left thumb, move the map about very easily. Scrolled up to north Finland and down to Fes, no problem.

I am using the 'more map' view, with map detail set to 'normal'.

Software version: 3.80

Map version: CN Europe NT 2011.10

I've just tried zooming out in the garden... I think 4 prods ...1.2 miles scale in the corner, and scrolling across the map at that resolution seems to work ..

Just travelled back from south Wales to Weymouth with the update installed.

My Zumo switched itself off when I detoured from it's suggested route for the second or third time.

CC.

rode up to Stevenage today and mine did the same so i played about it, my conclucions are.

Whilst riding on a route, if you divert from your route whilst in prompt mode and say no to recalculate, it switches the unit off, if you are in automatic recalculate or if you switch recalculate off, its ok :nenau.

Not convinced with the upgrade

Having tried the two new screen options - I prefer the original standard option, mainly due to the distance and arrow to turn info.

When navigating I have the distance and time to end as the two data options.

However the audio icon seems to have taken the place of the speed limit icon. This was a really useful feature, both home and abroad.

Also I seem to be getting rouge screens appearing advising me of speed limits/cameras, but needing me to tap OK before returning to the original screen :nenau

If you have your current speed displayed in one of the screen tabs, then the speed limit sign overlaps the corner of that tab and the current speed turns red when you exceed the posted limit.

Been using 3.80 for a few days now all was great (like the new features/options) This morning as I kill the power to the zumo it shut down, not switching to battery power and asking if I want to shut down as it normally does. The battery was fully charged, so I'll keep my eye out for any updates to 3.80, but unless it gets very much worse I'm happy overall with the update. I'll try a few more power offs over time and see if it was a one off or consistent.

UPDATE - Humm I'm beginning to doubt myself. Lots of off/on power cycles yesterday and not a glitch.

Played with standard/ more map / more data and liked them all for different situations.

Like the music icon on the map screen all the time (if you are worried it really doesn't take up much space and is over to the side - and with "more map" you'll still be far better off on map display).

The preview turn is much quicker and I always got to see the junction before it reverted to the map.

Music volume was the same (I saw somewhere people saying it was louder - not on mine).

Like the music banner when not navigating - touch it and it toggles between road and music info.

"Recalculate" replaces the detour button on the main screen when navigating - not sure where the "detour is now (if it still exists).

I like the update a lot - fingers crossed the shut down was a one off / user error.

cheers

Map version CN Europe NT 2011.10 ??

I've only got NT 2010.10 :nenau

Same as before... try to scroll the map and it reverts to my current position, zoomed in ... save screen :(

I don't quite understand what you are saying.
In More Data mode, you still have the next turn box top left the same, plus the Speed limit is still displayed (below the audio icon)

So More Data is the same as the classic view, but with a smaller map + 4 boxes instead of 2. So all the same info + 2 more ?

I've just got back from a lengthy roadtrip and the 660 shutdown issue was a major problem.

In general:
  • It would alway run OK without the SD card installed
  • Most days I had had two or three goes at getting the unit started. The most reliable was to remove battery AND SD card; replace battery; restart; wait until it found the satellites; turn off; remove battery; insert SD card; insert battery; turn on; mount on bike
  • Sometimes it would run OK but wouldn't find the music
  • All sorts of interesting error messages like: "USB cable disconnected" and "This accessory is unsupported"
  • Once running on the bike, it usually kept running - but not always

Garmin will be getting my views on Tuesday!

"This accessory is unsupported"

"This accessory is unsupported"
My unit did this and did all sorts of funny things, before not working properly in the bike mount. I cant remember the other error message, but I am sure it had something to do with the traffic GTM cable.
I have done a reset and it still wont work properly in the bike mount. I too will be contacting Garmin early next week.

Zumos tend to give those error messages when there's water in the mini connector for the traffic antenna, it isn't weather sealed. A spray of WD40 and tuck it somewhere dry normally cures it on the 660

Speakers working in bike mount

So can you explain why the speaker works when the unit is in the bike mount. My understanding was that the speaker will not work in the bike mount. Now I have a unit on my bike that behaves as if it was in a car. No trying to be rude, but open to suggestions as to what to do next.

my speaker works whilst in the bike mount. :thumb

Mine is/was connected to an autocom and worked fine, then kept getting error messages on it and now does not work through the autocom, but sound comes out of the speaker. I assumed that if it was connected to something else it would not play through the speaker.
I am not saying the problems are all as a result of the upgrade, but it worked fine before.
Thanks for the reply.

Copied from Zumo forum.

The Garmin website insisted on installing the latest 3.80 firmware when I went to update my safety camera info last night. On today's outing, it worked fine for the first few legs of the ride.

However, after reinstalling the Zumo in its motorbike cradle for the 4th leg, I noticed that it was giving no audio into my headset - neither music nor guidance. When I pulled up to investigate, I realised I could hear the Zumo's internal speaker playing my music!

I assumed it hadn't made a good connection with the gold pins, so I took it off and reseated it - several times - to no avail. It just wouldn't talk to the bike any longer.

After reading on here about numerous bugs in the new firmware, I rolled it back to v3.50 - and it talked to the bike again instantly! I've taken it off a few times, and it seems to be consistently working again - as it always did. I'll report back if it doesn't, but it does seem to me to be another bug with the firmware?

Just after I bought mine it suddenly started playing using the internal speaker whilst in the bike mount, a new bike mount from Garmin sorted it :nenau

I had enough info in classic view with a bigger map.

I'll have to persist with the smaller map on more data view.
