Hi

My Zumo arrived today (UK Digital Cameras) and a question occurs to me.

The power point can be screwed into the Zumo mount making is sort of permanent.

Do you really leave the Zumo mount unattended overnight, or at a race meeting?

Or

Do you not screw the power cable to the mount and remove the mount each time leaving the power cord waving in the wind?

Regards Mike

I leave my mount on the bike permanently, it can (along with most things) be removed with some spanners... but the ZUMO comes with me.

+1. I did feel the thumbscrew on the mount could be released/removed in seconds and not wanting to spend more money on a lockable mount I decided to remove the thumbscrew and replace with a locking nut which is covered with a rubber cap...as sleepy says can be removed with spanners but not quite so quickly.

Thank you for the quick replies, nyloc nut and a plastic cap will do it then:)

Anyone know where I can get a canbus socket and wire it up "properly"

Cheers Mike

For both my Quest and now my 2720 I soldered a Tamiya connector into the power lead (black and red wires, brown and white are audio and dead 'south' of the jack). This means I can just undo the RAM mount with GPS attached just leaving the un-obtrusive lower ball bolted to the bike. The Tamiya connector that remains is tucked down inside the fairing. On my Quest this was switched with the ignition as it had an internal battery, for the 2720 I've installed a switched feed running direct from the battery (well the optimate connector) so I don't have to have the ignition on to use/set-up the GPS but can switch off the feed when parked up.

If the Zumo lead is anything like that for the Quest and 2720 the audio out and mic wires will run the full length of the cable but be disconnected 'south' of the jacks up near the cradle.

I've got the Migsel mount for a 1200GS - if you can break that off you're welcome to it ;)

And the power supply plug is available from your BMW dealer - they'll sell you the whole thing for ££££ or you can just get the plug with bare wires for ££ but you'll have to do a bit of soldering. If you were anywhere near me I'd do the soldering for you - it's a 5 minute job

and you *might* consider one of these as well...

Thanks for the offer

I am having trouble getting hold of the Canbus socket from a BMW dealer.

They say a couple of days then it become 2-3 weeks then ....................

I have the other Migsel mount so that should be OK with the nyloc nuts

I appreciate the smart idea but three dealers to date can't supply within three weeks.
