Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Is there a damper for the hp2 avail in the market today? I.E. scotts, ohlins, wilbers, hyperpro ect? Pardon me for my ignorance on this matter.

I would have thought a steering damper was the last thing you'd want on a predominantly off-road bike. :nenau

i thought so too  but i guess i need one right now.... the hp's giving me the heebeebigeebees on rocky terrain....

so.... ANYONE.....IS THERE A DAMPER AVAILABLE FOR THIS...... THING??

i'm afraid there aren't any steering dampers for such purpose machines...

Keep the throttle pinned and keep the engine in the active power range with reasonable reserve, the font is then light by giving instant throttle and the obstacles are overcomed with the acceleration, with ease and with much better control. :thumb

It's the basics of offroad riding.

Crossing obstacles with a slow speed the human reflex tells you means usually a fall, the bike doesn't have enough momentum for stability with the very slow speed, also the front end is completely nailed without the acceleration, meaning the bike goes where it wants to, telling you to "fek off". And you do need mr. Arnold Shwarznegger hands indeed riding in such style...

Most Dakar riders use them, specially built for offroad bikes and not like road bike ones.

Mainly for pro riders

Use for going fast, very very fast over rough terrain to stop head shake, however for rocky terrain at slower speed follow Margus's tips

In the first few days of ownership my HP2s off road handling was great.
But then I set the rear damper up as recommended (ie bubble level when sat on bike). Back end was far too hard for the rocky trails, and the front end seemed very loose/twitchy. Bike even spat me off on one section.
So I let some air out of the damper (bubble level with no rider). Handling great again - more noticable is the solid front end than the smoother rear.
This is for slow rocky trails, but give it a try.

Handling tips

Tips from messrs Pavey & Co at the B'em School - they run the HP2's with the rear very soft as per Spout's findings with the forks pushed down flush with the steering head. Forks are set at MAX damping all round. ( Heavier oil would help ).

Give it a try!

Cheers, Rick.

Got it guys. Thanks for the info. :D The rear shock info came in very handy... although now, its the front end that still keeps me at a loss. The right fork is for rebound and the left for compression????

suspension suks

I have ordered an ohlins for the back of my hp2 and the fronts getting springs and things. It will be a new machine, now for the akra race system

WT was #1 number
2 was extended Fastway pegs 3/4 of an inch longer which are available throught Colin who runs the parts at http://www.bmwventura.com
