Chain recall thread

Similar story for me my 08 F650 is not on the list I was advised by my dealer.

I was told by my dealer today that the next time my bike was in (next week) that they would replace my chain and sprocket under warranty... Mine is an '08 650 as well so it might be worth asking you dealer to double check :)

Had my letter from jeffierys this morning ref chain, most posts on here tlk about 08 bikes, well mine is an 09 and has still been recalled, they stated chain, pinnion and sprocket. i am guessing by the word pinnion they mean front sprocket.
the best thing is i changed them 2 months ago for a DID setup. Oh well £150 but better safe than sorry. I wonder if they will let me have the new sprockets as spares???? i ont hold my breath
I also see the 6000 mile service has gone up from £154 to £176 due to the incr:nenauese in oil prices,

Might be wise to hang on to it for a bit,see how the new white chocolate ones hold up? If its just swapping kak for slightly improved kak, you might decide its still better to go for `gold`:rob

Well there's lots more on here that will say the same thing ... then their chain broke

At my own expense I fitted a HD DID and new sprockets

Ah ... the piece of mind :thumb
:beerjug:

Having decided to run the risk of my chain snapping, and waiting for the recall.

I had to go in today anyway because the top hose came loose (despite already having had that recall).

They fixed the hose while I waited, so I popped the question 'Is my bike on the chain recall'? 'Yes, would you like us to do that now?

So, I now have a shiny new silver chain, and new sprockets.

Tim was quite scathing of the white chocolate chains. Have there actually been any failures?

For info. my bike was manufactured April 08, registered June 08

Just been advised by Customer Service today (Stuart Mitchell) my My F650 July 08 is not covered so CLOSURE tomorrow on goes a DID X ring at my cost

At least I'll know where I stand an I can 'give it some' without worrying about a chain wrap or failure

I'm not entirely sure that all dealers are singing from the same songsheet. I'd recommend calling another, and see if you get the same response. I understand there has to be a cut-off. But 1 month given the well documented problems seems too close to me. You could call Matt at NOG. Tell him your local dealer is ?, but want to know if your bike is on the list.

Official recall letter came today for madame's F800 for free replacement of chain and 'other components associated with it'.

Shame we shelled out £150 to fit a DID & sprockets 2 weeks ago but no way of knowing how long we might have waited.

Oh, April 2009 bike by the way.

Russian roulette

I got a letter this weekend from Riders of Cardiff spelling out the dire consequences of chain failure and telling me to contact them for recall work. I did, I was told that I will have to wait until 17th June before they can fit me in. I would have been to the TT on the bike by then !
Now my Mrs travels on the back, and she has seen the letter, guess what that means, correct I have to park up the GS and use my Honda.
Anybody know a dealer within say 100 miles of south wales with a more proactive attitude or I am I worrying about nothing. :comfort

Got my Chain & Sprockets recall letter today so booked in for next week. Bike is Jan 09 and first chain did snap. V. pleased as existing replaced under warranty chain is on last legs :)

Still completely lost, I am.
No sign at all of such a recall this side of the channel :eek

If someone would be kind enough to scan the document :augie

Just got back from Euro trip. Knew nothing about the recall.

When in Switz, popped into small BMW dealer to get a new pair of gloves. Couldn't have been more helpful. Tech came out to look at our bikes and mentioned recall, did a check and mine needed chain & sprockets.

Stripped down a new GS in the showroom to give me the parts and ensure the rest of our trip wasn't compromised.

Excellent service.

Mate's bike which was only a few chassis numbers higher didn't need the recall.

So, you mean to say that only UK & Swtis are concern about that "recall" and the rest of EU no ... :eek

Facts, please facts that I can put in front of my dealer's eye :augie

You can always email BMW Customer Services on [email protected] together with your bike registration number and frame number and they will check for you.

Thank you, for the link !

I cannot believe it :eek

Recall later came in on Monday and bike going in tomorrow for recall work. Luckily I hadn't fitted a DID chain I recently purchased. Its an 09 bike - not sure what month.
