In this first instalment we'll have a quick look at what we need to start the job.
First a prepped tank, in this case a HPN jobbie which has been rubbed down with a med course sandpaper to help the base coat key into the plastic. This is important coz you don't want your paint flaking off
then we've got the TOOLS of the trade. I use a HVLP (high volume low pressure) detail gun for the the main colour coating. We spray at 40psi with this gun starting with a light dust coat to key things in followed by 2 wet coats.
I use two types of airbrush, both a twin action and single action type. The twin action gun is ideal to do fine detail where as the single is great for just filling in small areas of full colour.
Then we have the paint. This is a litre of Rosso Luminesso which is as close as i can get to the original 1985 colour, i also have alpine white for the other bits. Both are twin pack which means the use of a good breathing system cos this stuff is not nice
This is my selection of autoair water based colour, with any luck i'll be able to mix and play about to get the right colours for the finer details like the sponser stickers on the original.
So there we go. Next i'll get the undercoat onto the tank and we can start with the good stuff

Question is the tank plastic or nylon? As my plastic tank has now pealed and bubbled.
