GS to GSA or not?

I guess I really need to test ride a GSA and get it out of my system or decide after the ride to get one.

Not worth it on those terms but if you sell GS private then maybe. You could always source spoked wheels, longer shox etc slowly and Adventurise the GS, I know you're doing that with the screen. I'd get a play thing, off road jobbie. Be firm with the dealer and say you want an extra couple of grand on the deal? If no just walk away.

David I think either Wunderlich or Touratech have lowering pegs for riders which will help increase the distance of your butt to your feet and reduce the angle of your legs. (caution here because it does decrease the ground clearance on corners).It may help as I know where you are coming from. I vary the seat height often depending on my load or journey time and I too used to suffer from this on the lower setting but I've joined a gym and started to exercise a bit more-streatching really and this helps, also the odd leg streatch whilst riding on a journey or a quick stand up helps. I seem to have cured the knee problem with some wonderlich risers that set the bar back a inch and up a inch. The revised riding position makes me sit further back in the saddle a has altered the angle of my leg.

Shopping with the GSA....

WARNING:- whatever you do if you own a 12GSA with BMW panniers then do not put fish 'n' chips in one of the boxes! I did about two months ago and the smell is still there. The aluminium has absorbed the smell and I've had a go with almost everything to get rid of the fishy smell from my top box......:blast

I owned a 1200GS for six months before I test rode a 1200GSA. I ordered a GSA the next day. I've ridden c 5500 miles since February including a daily 22 mile commute into central London, c 3000 miles around Ireland & Scotland and it hasn't missed a beat. I have to work in Zurich in September for a week in September and rather than fly comfy class with a glass of fizz, I'm taking the GSA for the c 1200mile round trip. This will include a few laps of the Nurburgring on the way back to London.

Comfort, planted feel, weather protection, screen, presence - the GSA has it all. A full BOS system inc headers has also unleashed a beast of an engine.

Soak a rag in Malt Vinegar. Place rag in plastic bag. Place open plastic bag in top box for one day.

It won't remove the smell of the fish, but it will make it smell right and you'll want to go and get some more :thumb

North, by all means try and get a spin on one before you buy, but it really doesn't matter what height you are. You'll love it.

PS, don't buy one if you value the pose value. There are very few people to show it off to in the places that you will be taking it. The odd walker maybe, but they'll be too irate with you because you scared off the lesser spotted, short-tailed, yellow tipped plover or whatever, to be thinking of Ewan Mc Gregor and sex.

Dont worry about not having a GS yet as there are more than 1 or 2 in the same position.
It sounds like you were bowled over by the GSA in your post.

We'll doubtless bump into one-another again ... some time after April ... I'm [trying to be] a patient chap :bounce1 But I was sorely tempted by their offer of 3k for Mel and the fully equipped ADV standing in the centre of the showroom ... Anyhow I'm off to France, Spain (Marbella - not somewhere I would normally think of going, but catching up with friends) then touring some remote parts before heading for Andorra and back through France, arriving in Paris for the Apple Expo and:

Should I change from 1200GS to 1200GSA?

I am short and not very strong .. I just like the look of the GSA. If I get it I suppose I need to lower the suspension.

So is it better to get a tank conversion on my GS?
