BB powerchip or similar is inside the ECU if fitted. it will/should have a label on it.

what is the part no. of the coding plug?

Would it be for changing the fuel managment for running low octane fuel?

Would like to know myself as I pick up my new ADV at the end of March....:D :D :D :D

My BMW one of those, purely on the off chance I should encounter crap fuel while in the UK and definitely not abroad yer honour

is white...................

if that helps

ps. They're only about a fiver

but it's only a piece of wire with a female connector on each end - cost 20p

BM put it in a nice coloured case and charge you a fiver for it -

part no.6136-8366282 mines got a wire fitted instead looks like it came with the chip here's a photo with a picture of someone elses set up beside it .bike runs fine but i'm nosey and want to no what chips fitted is there any special procedure for opening the ecu . thanks for your help and fuse box guide !

thats a picture of my code plug set-up .

Haven't got a chip fitted - just Y piece and remus, and it runs much better ( good mixture) with it set up as in the picture .

part no.6136-8366282 is the same as the link in the lower picture. it links 30-87. that link also has a spare connection on it, which if you put it in 86 is the low octane position.

i think it is for a bike with a cat. if you have no cat (and an 1150) try linking as in top pic. which i believe is part no. 6136-8366551, is beige & links 30-87A.

hard to get concrete info on what all these links do, but from what i've learnt, the selections of fuel maps with these links is different on 1150s to 1100s.

thanks cookie so that means that blue wire is doing the same job as the coding plug ,correct me if i'm wrong .has anyone changed the ecu chip themselves is there a special way to do it

THANKS

just uncrew and remove the cover, its held in place with silicon sealer as well as the screws - "unplug" the ecu chip, and replace with the other chip - be very careful, the prongs (arms) on the chips are very delicate

yes. normal fuel plugs have 2 connections & low RON fuel plugs have 3. could make one out of a paperclip i should think.

looks to me like 3rd wire is unconnected in the photo. would prolly make bike run poorly if connected.

not changed an ECU chip myself (yet. but it can't be long 'til i dump my techlusion) but i know a man who has. i'm told it's quite possible to damage the circuit board while opening the case, so take care.

ps. anyone wants a link to play with. PM me & i'll post you one.

CHEERS i feel a strip down coming on to see what chips fitted in mine i'll let you no how i get on .does that look like the standard BMW chip in the photo ?

photo is of cat code plug not ECU chip. it's in the fuse box.
i think that particular item was fitted as standard to some bikes, others had no CCP fitted which selects another ECU map again.

ECU chip shown here. it's in a ally box under the tank.

i would stress again, accurate info on this subject seems very hard to come by. specific info ie. what link selects what map & what that map does on the std. bmw chip is all but non existant AFAIK. i've never seen any from bmw.

steptoe has in the past said that the link used in his bike is listed in the BB powerchip documentation as a y-piece & race can setting for standard bmw chip.
i've not seen that info, i'd like to though. not that i doubt it's accuracy, i use it on my bike & it's the best setting i've found amongst the 1/2 dozen or so i've tried by some margin.
