On my last trip (2800 miles) My arse killed me, i mean proper sore :spitfire

What are ther best seats, covers that will help this?

Take a week off work, put 'seat' in the search box, sit and read stuff until you get :rob
 
It's a bit like the 'which helmet' question, it depends on the shape of your head; or arse in this case. Plus a few other ergonomic factors. I personally found the Corbin to my taste, although it does 'spread em' a bit and not everyone is comfortable with that.

Come to the Hog Roast (or any other meet) and you'll see just about every variation, most folks will let you sling a leg. You're welcome to try my corbin/1100/black combination, but might find it a little fast coming from a yeller jobbie :thumb

I recently returned from a tour around Ireland and suffered the same symptoms as you. I read through several of the threads on this forum and came to the conclusion that it is personal preference and how much you want to part with when ordering a replacement seat. I have gone for the Bagster comfort seat with gel inserts. You design the seat yourself, i.e, you choose the style, fabric, colour and trim based on your donated seat(s). The only problem is that you are left seatless/bikeless for 4 weeks whilst the seat is being made. See here for details. Click on "Make my seat" above the Industry gif. I ordered mine from the Bagster shop in Abergele, North Wales (Tel: 01745 823333 ) and received 10% discount for having done the Bikesafe course. Cost is about £280 + donation seat.

I use an Airhawk for any long trips, but do notice it doesn't take long for a bit of numb bum to set in when just tooshing around locally without it. But you don't really want to run around with the Airhawk continually fitted (cos some bastard will nick it).

Now, I've recently noticed that the seatcover has started to tear and reported this when I left the bike in for its 6K service last week. It also turns out that I've also got a standard seat and there's a high version available. Obviously it must have some more foam in it to raise the seat height, so on the assumption that the high version will offer slightly more comfort, I'm asking for a high seat to replace the standard one. Problem being, as it's a warrenty job, it is more than likely will have to be a 'like for like' replacement. Now call me stupid (Hey Stupid !! :dabone ), but the cost is the same and it's only a slightly different part number, so what's the real problem ? :nenau

Oh, just for anyones interest, an Adventure seat is only about £6 more expensive than the standard/high seat.

depends on your arse.

Very subjective, one mans comfort is another mans sore arse.

I tried a few different types. Found the Corbin was best for me. 14 hours in the saddle to torramelinos without any problems. And 2 tours of 5K+ miles ( one 10days, another 15 days) without any aches at all .
 
Also bear in mind. if you go the custom route, and you find it's only marginally better, you'll have trouble selling it, and lose a lot of money.

If you get a known make i.e. sargent, corbin, you'll get your money back when you re-sell it.

i bought my corbin, front and rear seats for £300, i'd imagine i'd get that back i had to sell them .
 
Try a sheepskin first, cheapest way and works for lots of people...............

Just spent a week looking at the options available, Sargent, Corbin, Bahre, Melvyn Hunter and reading comments from previous postings on the site and have decided to go down the route of Melvyn H and the gel inserts.

My seats went in the post this week and should be back middle of next week.

Had a chance to look at a set which were for sale and quality was very good, unfortunately they were based on the low front seat and it did not suit me.

From what I have read value for money and results these are a great solution coming in at less than half the price of some of the other options.

I have to agre with Steptoe that this route means you do not have the option of a set of seats to sell should you change the bike, but to be honest I'm still happier as for the price of a Sargent front seat I have front and rear modified to my specifications.

to think that i could completely remove the aches and pains with a new seat is great. i must do it, as im off to Casino later this year and this does worry me.

Just thought you might like to know that the LWR lot AND Kevin and Julia Sanders both used Airhawks for their trips (or at last that is what Airhawk have said).

We are using them for the Pink Way Challenge - I'll let you know what results they give us -- me with my ample bottom :eek: and my husband with his tighter one :D We're doing a dry run :moped: next weekend of Region 8 - so if you can wait til then :nenau -- I'll let you know. :clap

Standard.... :) .... still a pain... and am saving up for a Corbin... would have ordered one... but according to their chap... I need front AND rear... which is a bit of a feck.. and expensive..... since I don't give a stuff about my pillion.. :) ...actually I don't ever carry a pillion.... :o

And in what respect does he mean by that ? Personally, I'm considering a Sargent, but front only as there doesn't seem to be a requirement to buy both seats from them.
 
I went through this dilemna. Got an airhawk at the end of the day - its the cheapest option (bar a sheepskin) and easily saleable.

I won't be selling it as its fantastic :D
