Thunder - do you retain the height adjustment of the orginal as it would apear the work is based on the orginal seat pan?

I recently returned from a tour around Ireland and suffered the same symptoms as you. I read through several of the threads on this forum and came to the conclusion that it is personal preference and how much you want to part with when ordering a replacement seat. I have gone for the Bagster comfort seat with gel inserts. You design the seat yourself, i.e, you choose the style, fabric, colour and trim based on your donated seat(s). The only problem is that you are left seatless/bikeless for 4 weeks whilst the seat is being made. See here for details. Click on "Make my seat" above the Industry gif. I ordered mine from the Bagster shop in Abergele, North Wales (Tel: 01745 823333 ) and received 10% discount for having done the Bikesafe course. Cost is about £280 + donation seat.

I have the exact same seat in the picture, with the gel inserts, £291 including delivery but not including cost of sending original saddle to Bagster.

For me it has been a waste of money the original seat was more comfortable, I'm 6'3" and 18 stones, my arse cannot move back or forward once on the move so I have to stand to adjust my sitting position. Pillion passengers on the other hand say the back seat is brilliant.

That is my experience, if your not as heavy as me I would imagine the seat would be very very comfortable

One thing I would say is Bagsters customer service is second to none I cannot recommend them highly enough particularly Mel (Meloney).
The only company I have ever been moved enough to write a seperate letter of thanks to.

PS I'll do a straight swop for a Sargent seat if anyones interested.

Has your misses got any welsh in her? and if not would she like some?

I'm still on standard seat and subscribe to the 'stand up for a while to get the circulation going again' routine - not switched on enough to do it from the start but it works OK once you feel the numbness setting in. I do regular 500+ mile round trips from Kent to Manchester and find I'm starting to feel it after about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Interestingly when I've been off the bike for a few days I'm suffering after about 1 hour on my ride to work for the first couple of days, then it's all OK. Maybe it's just what you get used to? Could also be what you're wearing - I find jeans under my Gericke Voyagers are fine, whereas leathers are less so and Voyagers on their own worst of all. Think about where the seams are and where the numbness is - could just be a trip to M&S is all it takes? :D

That said I still fancy a sheepskin :thumb

Cheers Burf

Well i ordered a set of sergent seats for my R1100GS today will report on them when we get back from Norway ...Tried a set of gelpads from M&P absolutely CRAP INMHO waste of money :( going on ebay soon ;) ;) ;)

Good thread this as I have just sourced a second hand Airhawk for my trip next month to Switzerland and the surrounding area. :thumb

Couldn't justify the big bucks on new seats etc so thought the Airhawk would do as I would only use it on long runs.

Hi Thunder,

Where did you get the back rest from for your Hepko and Becker top box as I have the same box and would like one of those for the occasional pillion?

from a "Holistic" stand point....

the location of your Body on the seat (the bike) plays a big roll in the way the bike will fit, handle and perform...

first of all...
I think (after years of R&D) the best aproach is to "Spread" the load of your body as much as possible and let the footpegs, handlebars and even the wind. carry some of your body mass, that way not all the loads are located at your squiatic bones ergo less pressure points to be adress..

seats like the Corbin's are great for seating on them (if they were couches, dinner chairs, bar stools) but not so great when you consider were they place you on the bike.. way to far back, bringing a lot of other problems like handlebar reach, increase dificulty to stand up, shifting and rear braking issues, extra wind noise, etc. plus the fact that the bike does not handle as sharplly do to the increase mass tranfer to the rear end and the lack of weight in the front end..

also remenber just because a seat is "Lower" does not exactlly emply you will have better reach to the ground (standover height) again ussing the Corbin's for exaple, the fibreglass seat pans that they use are extremlly wide, forcing your legs to be more spread out and in the end decreasing the reach to the ground, think of a shallow piramidal triangle when what you need is a "Narrow waist" seat so your legs are more paralel (as much as possible, oviuslly)...

height....
try to ride the tallest seat you can take, since your knees will thanks you for ever and ever and also your bike will handle much better since you are more on "Top of it" than just seating on it..

i hope this helps...

Oh Sheep skins pads totally rule...
they "air you down there" and they spread the body loads extrelly well, just don't let them get wet (maybe a problem up there since it rain so much)..

Just got back from 8 days in France on a Sergeant seat. My maximum mileage in one day was 530 over 10 hours and I felt I could have got back on and done the same straight away! :thumb They are absolutely the dogz bollox! Highly recommended :thumb

Whilst I find my 1150GS seat reasonably OK for comfort, I can't get both feet flat on the ground even with the seat set to its lowest (I'm 5'8"). Growth pills aside I'm looking at options: I saw the Wunderlich Ergo low seat in their new catalogue, anyone had any experience of that??

Serious question, why are they so good?

I had heard this to might try this out must be cheeper than a new seat

Go for silicone implants in your arse. That way they will always be there what ever bike you ride.....I'll get my coat.
