best comfortable seat?

I've just done 1500 miles in three days on my Corbin seat on the GSA and found exactly the same thing. It was great on the motorway but less fun round the twisties. I put it down to being shorter of leg and longer of back than most people of 6 foot 2 inches, but maybe it's just the way the seat is madep. Or maybe I'm the same size and shape as Andy.

Absolutely no arse ache though. And a pillion will love it.

Put the original seat back today and I'll be putting the Corbin in "For Sale and Wanted" when I get a chance.

I'll keep the bar risers on I think.

Hi Ian,

Yeah, you sound just about the same size as me, I'm 6' 1" and longer in the back than the leg. You're right to about the Corbin on the twisties.

I just can't get used to my Corbin...which is a real shame, as I was expecting so much. I really hope this new mod that I'm doing will work...I'll post a thread to let everyone know. :thumb
Cheers

Seats arrived back from Melyn Hunter this morning, no chance to try them out over any distance owing to work , will have to wait until the weekend and do some long ditance riding to see how they feel, the things I do for research! :D

Thought I'd post initial impressions and some pics for those interested including one of the original seats from a similar angle.

Both rider and pillion seats have been reshaped to improve position of nether regions, in the cse of the rider the dip running into the tank is considerably rreduced without noticeably increasing the ride height.

The seats are beautifully finished, I went for double stitching rather than piping and they were shipped and returned in a week.

Will post the results of a long ride later in the week.

Best comfortable seat?

Forget Corbin, Melvin Hunter, Sargent, you need one of these. Ideal for the Riviera traveller on a budget. Looks great too :D I can confirm that my wife found it the most comfortable pillion perch she's ever been on, and she should know, she's had a few. Err, rides that is. Err, on my various bikes...I'll get me coat.

If you want me to knock one up for you, it'll take less than a week, and you keep your original seat :D

Thanks...........Look forward to it, :thumb

How much did they cost?

Recovering and reshaping front and rear seats is £135, adding one gel pad is £50 or 2 has a discount at £85 so gels front and rear and recovering £220.

Only other cost is shipping them back which is £12 and shipping them to him cost me £10.

Just an update having had the chance to get out on the bike today and try the new seats.

This is a personal view on the "Mel Gels" on the 1200GS, but I have to say they are so comfortable I will be putting the rear Corbin I bought from a friend on the For sale secion when it arrives.

The new riders seat is about a half inch taller than the original, does not sound much but if you find the stock seat a stretch it could make a difference to how secure you feel stopping at junctions or the like.

Having said that I found the seating position superior to the standard seat and while I only managed 200 miles I had no sign of discomfort in those important little places.

In addition, where previously I had noticed vibration which mildy affected "vision" with my Tour X at certain speeds, with the new seat I did not notice any problems, possibly bacause of the gel insert.

Have to say, very impressed with the quality of the modification, the improved levels of comfort without affecting the "feel" of the bike through the twisties and the look of the seats on the bike. A personal opinion as I said but have to recommend these to anyone considering seating options. :thumb

A common misconception is that gel inserts add comfort to a seat. In fact, all they do is cancel out vibration, so people then think the gel is providing the extra comfort they are (hopefully) experiancing.

Reading back I did not clarify the fact the cancellation of vibrations rom the gel inserts may have improved vision. Your right, the comfort coes fromthe improved seating position and the foam. :thumb

Airhawks - now that I have ridden on them!

Just to say - have done approx 1300 miles this weekend (see Region 8 of Pink Way Challenge stuff) and no probs "bum" wise. :clap After a couple hours things began to feel like it needed a rest off the bikes - but nothing terrible and no bad after effects after each day on the bike. Arms aching -- thats all!
Moo :)
PS talking about the Airhawks! Money well spent!

The front seat doesnt seem to dip as much as the original which is a plus. can I ask you, did you use an autswitch for your lights?

Thought I would update my comments on Mels seat searvice having covered some decent mileage going to and returning from the Hog Roast with a trip to the Ring of Kerry thrown in for good measure.

Have to say very pleased wih the work Melvyn has done, seat much more comfortable with no signs of the previous sore arse syndrome appearing as it did before.

My partner loves the new pillion seat and tells me it is much better then the stock seat, not only much more comfortable but the new shape prevents her moving forward as much under breaking.

Apparently my nether regions are much more relaxed, even falling asleep at some points as she said she distinctly heard snoring coming from down there! :D

Now I know this is a personal view and we are all different but have to say I'm totally delighted with the seats. :thumb

Chalfonts

Just replaced a nearly new standard seat on my 1150 with a second hand Melvyn from here. :clap

Wise move - If your scared of meeting George Michael  in a public toilet.

Sorts out the Chalfonts and no need to stand up on motorways! :bounce1
