Overland Yorkshire To Mongolia....... On A Quad

Hi Lo

I like that....:D

erm how does that work then? the whole writing books and stuff...

sorry if that's a personal question but again I'm just nosey

It is not rocket blasting stuff really............I always either self publish or guost write for others........if you get your stuff published by a popular publisher the author has no money to lay out but only receives a 7% royality (most times lower) on the retail price........if I self publish, OK I have to lay out the printing costs and have to do all the marketing myself but my charity ends up with about 45% of the retail price.........I am in the middle of doing a series of train travel books which I have already presold to the train companies......as I said before in the last 6 years there is about 240,000 the pot for the Refuge that I want to set up..... it will take about the same again to get the whole project off the ground so am I am half towards my goal......so that not too bad.....(for a mad fat eccentric old Scarecrow :toungincheek :comfort :toungincheek

Hi Lo,

What do you mean how thick??? If you have written so much you could turn them into a series.........how many words have you written so far??? presuming they are on computer you should easily be able to get a word count.........do you have photos to back up your story???........has anyone read it thru for you???

there's so much stuff it would fill a library... and nobody would believe half of it.

this is a sort of random travel report of my recent trip to japan.

if that helps.

I have been checking out your travel report, have you got anything in a word document that I could read through.......don't worry about the spellllling 'cause I am dislexick as well........I left school at 12 and always for forgot to go back.........mind you the 'school of life' as served me quite well:JB

A few minutes ago I have just been on Classic FM as a publicity punt and have had three phone calls already so Noel Edmunds would be a great help as well. PM his number I am sure it would be worth a phone call.....don't know if the IQod would be man enough for the trip though but lets see what they say......

Scarecrow57

I'll test the water first before the number goes out just to make sure.

to be honest the little car won't be man enough for the job but it'll make a better read if it breaks down a million times in the trip. and it'll make the locals look... so good for pictures

No.I do not 'do' walking.......I want to do a lot of Europe before pushing on to Kaz. Russia and Mongolia........I possibly will not make it back that way another day so I wish to take in a much as I can whilst I'm there....plus as far as I am aware this is not supposed to be a race!!!:comfort:comfort:comfort

If Mongolia is your main objective, I suggest making that destination a priority before you run out steam, money, encour the many mechanical problems etc etc.
Do Europe on the way back....if you can be bothered.:)

OVERLAND FROM YORKSHIRE TO MONGOLIA ON A QUAD!!!

I am 51 years old (going on 15!!!)......I am a slightly eccentric divorced ex farmer,

Fistly you're unlikely to have enough time to sort visas etc. before departure, considering you don't even have a group together yet.

If you're not coming back, then it's very different to a trip from Yorkshire to Mongolia and China?? I suggest you need to be very clear to others of your objectives.
Have you researched whether you'll even be allowed to take your quad into China?:augie

My fault sorry.......that was an old post that I put up awhile back on another forum, when I was thinking of going as far as China but since then I have found out that China is just too much like hard bl**dy work with a vehicle as you need to have it registered in China and a whole load of sh*t like that.... you must have a guide to escort you thru etc plus bucket loads of paperwork.........so I decided to turn at Mongolia going in via the north and out via the west and return the quad back to Calais then backpack down to Africa not too sure yet on that part as it is a year off yet........so for this part of the trip it is Europe for 5/6 months arriving Mongolia June/Julyish..........my apologies for not being too clear but I really would like this trip to evolve rather than planned to the last minute detail.

You'll need to contact David Berhoff at Stantours, based in Almaty, who can supply letters of invitation (LOI).

http://www.stantours.com/

And Travcour (London) to coordinate your visa applications.

http://www.travcour.com/g_page.php?pageid=511&Pagetitle=Contact+Us

I've just rolled one so hold on....right.

Russia:mad:
You can only apply for the visa from your country of residance.

You need a double entry business visa which is only valid for 3 months.
For that you first supply a business proposal lie... er I mean letter, then you get your LOI, then you may get a visa. It's extremely difficult and unlikely to be granted one for any longer.

Now comes the crunch, so take a swig of your Glayva....there is a time restriction on your visa from it's date of issue which you'll have to check, but it won't allow you the time you intend in Europe before it expires:blast

Have fun:aidan

BTW Russia is easy compared to some of the the other 'Stans':comfort

That appears to be what I have read this afternoon thats why I had the bottle of Glayva out in the first place.........:comfort.......and why I have got thru 25grammes of Golden Virginia............what I had come up with if someone applied on my behalf nearer to the date of entry..but that will not work 'cause I will have my passport with me:mad:........any ideas???

Hic Hic ..........back to the Glayva...I'm washing it doon with some coffee........so I now I have guarenteed the hang over for tomorrow......:comfort
