► Centre and side stands

What was the cost of a new side-stand? Mines been commented on by many bmw-engineers. That it's further over than the newer 800's. This might be the kick up the arse to swap it over.

seventy five of the Queens sterling pound coins:mad:

North Oxford Garage, serviced my bike @30K. However when over in germany 24hrs later.I noticed that the bash plate hadn't been removed & they have charged me for an oil-filter.

I complained saw Matt, big boss. End of basically.

I wouldn't recommend NQG ever. I don't care its £8, I do high mileage & they do shoddy servicing. :rob

Hi Paddy. Sorry to hear that. I'm with you on the oil filter. I can never understand why some services ask for oil change but not filter. 30,000 sounds like a biggy, so you'd assume the filter should be in it.

Matt and James have never given me anything other than 1st class service.

The nuts were all grimmie on the inside (a Torx bit would hook out most of the shite on opening/tightening) & my bike doesn't get cleaned often. So it helps to see whats been checked & what should be new.

Heh heh, they only washed mine when I complained that it hadn't been done when they had it for warranty work, and again three weeks later for it's service. So I took it back after my trip to Morocco when it was caked in African mud and dirt! :)

That sounds familiar. BMW's crappy welding was the cause of my side stand snapping off on my junk heap of a R1200GS a while back:

I wrote a thread on it - blimey it's 6 years ago now! All those older 1200GSs should be just about ready to collapse now as their side stands rust off. It's certainly worth checking.

BMW had to fit a new rear frame under warranty. Initially they accused me of doing all sorts of horrible things to the bike, but it was quite clear that there was rust on the inside surfaces of the stand mount where it meets the frame, and the welding itself was extremely poor.

Handily, there was a steel fabricator around the corner and they took one look at the stand mount and just laughed at how bad the welding was, and were good enough to let the nice BMW man know so that quashed any resistance to the warranty work.

Additionally, the welds only went along the top and bottom edges of the stand mount, not the front and back edges. As a result, water, salt etc could easily penetrate and rust the unpainted inner surfaces to bits.

Not sure if its a camel toe but I have something on the 800 I just bought, and it has the Motech as well - I'll check later and let you know........

I have the TT side stand enlarger combined with the SW center stand, works fine, no probs ;)

Grtz, Philip!

Thanks Philip, looking at the picture on TT site the foot extends on the bike side of the sidestand, which looking at it will hit the centre stand. I have the F650GS wonder if that makes a difference.

Looks like I will have to try the cameltoe as it looks like the only one that extends away from the bike.

Mine has a "M" or "W" stamped on it.

That is very similar to the one I had on and will definitely hit the SW Motech centre stand on the F650GS.

Even with no foot fitted the side stand is only about a centimetre from the centre stand.

I decided to bite the bullet and ordered a cameltoe, it too hit the centre stand until I ground the corner of the lower plate. All fits great now, but to put the centre stand down or up the side stand has to be down.

side stand

just asking a question has any body else have any issues with the side stand, when i have my panniers on and my tent on the rear rack the bike is on the verge of tipping over does any body else have this problem. i have to use the main stand all the time and i dont think i have overloaded the bike cheers ta

Know what you mean, Ive been fully loaded on the side stand on Eurotunnel a few times, bounces about and always looks like its about to topple over. Never does tho.
You could always get a Touratech side stand plate. Should raise it a little and looks a lot more stable..
