Tried that - was going great until I said, so how about my KTM - "oh that means you will have to have a standard Devitt policy". All of this is as you say with NIG who Bennets had already quoted me for but BMW Motorrad were dearer.

That'd be cos it wasn't a BMW. I belive that if you are fortunate enough to own more that one BM, NIG (through BMW) will quote for the dearest bike and then charge £10 for the other(s). Bit of a bargain to my Scottish mind :):)
Having said that, I only own one BM (1150GS, of course), so can't vouch for the £10 extra bit.

Hang on a minute!!!

This is a forum for those of us who choose to ride BMWs.
We buy our bikes from BMW dealers (mostly).
We adorn our steeds with BMW accessories.
Some of us wear BMW clothing (i.e. Twat-suits !).

So, why do we not try BMW insurance for our nice new F800GS's??

They're the insurers carrying BMW's name, even thought the firm is NIG.

So who needs Bennets/E-bike etc etc. If NIG can't give you a quote on a BMW, who can.

Go see your BMW Motorrad dealer.

How lucky or misguided you are :augie

Or you never travel outside the EU ..

I got a quote from Carol nash £850:00 for insurance on the F800gs (suppose price matched bike £850/F800GS)
then went to BMW £285
then next day carol nash phoned back and asked me how I found my insurance
quote as I laughed and said gangster firm spring to mind rip off robbers

the girl on the phone said hang a minute she came back with a price
of £235 mass discount within 24hrs

got the quote in the post the other morning £197 :nenau

I have always had carol nash as my insurance company
with all my bikes multi bike/cars and on one occasion I used the
breakdown service for the bike to which I found ok

P.S did you know that BMW do a FREE yes thats FREE five day insurance when you pick up your new F800GS/F650GS they will email or send the cover note info direct to your dealer :thumb2

Nothing to do with it.
I was merely pointing out that nobody seemed to have tried to get insurance thru BMW(NIG).

It took me from beginning of February (02 Feb) until yesterday to sort out GREEN CARD for a trip to outside the EU.

Did buy Carole Nash and the green card was done in a DAY!

Devitts (BMW) Customer service .. have no clue. Some of them didn't know what a Pannier was. Depends on who you get and how you argue your case you get different answers. Remember this is the paying money bit not the claim money bit!!

Carole Nash customer service .. bikers themselves. Knew all facts about the policy they were selling. Same response whoever you spoke to.

That's what I am talking about and implying that maybe they didn't want to get wound up whilst spending their hard earned cash :augie

Just thought I'd share my experience trying to insure my new 650GS twin with BMW insurance

I put my deposit down last Thursday and agreed to pick it up this coming week, I rang BMW with all the details and explained I had just bought a brand new 2008 F650GS 800cc twin from North Oxford BMW. I was told "we don't have that bike on our system madam, we only have the 652cc single cylinder model" I said "you must have it on there by now the bike's been on sale for the last 3 weeks!" "OK let me go and speak to someone to find out what's going on here", so off she goes and comes back saying "oh yes Mrs Batten that's not a problem", we go through all the usual questions and the premium is £230 fully comp which I am very happy with as it includes my old 650 too, she tells me we're doing a special deal on the new 650's and your premium will stay the same year after year, there will be no increase, great I thought.

Today my documents arrive, they've got my address wrong, my personal details wrong and worst of all the new bike is down as 652cc!!

So I ring up, complain about all the errors and that the bike is 798cc not 652cc and this snotty kid tells me there is no such bike on the system, they only have the 652cc single cylinder.......blah blah blah....aarrrgggggggghhhhhhh!!!!

Anyway after arguing with spotty kid and clearly not winning I told her to stuff the policy, I still had my other bike insured elsewhere and I was going back to them and guess what not only did they have my new bike on the system they added it onto my current policy for £40 so I dont think I will be bothering with BMW and their special deals again in a hurry!

I'm waiting.... renewed my insurance in January for the 650 Dakar... removing the F800ST ... no change in policy price with taking the F800ST off cover Mmmmmm

So, I asked, when I add the F800GS on in March there will be no additional premium then?

No answer...

I'm waiting

:beerjug:

So last week I want to put the F800GS on my insurance and I have to pay an extra £61  (BMW Motorrad with NIG)

So let's get this straight, I remove the F800ST off my insurance and there is no reduction in premium to just insure the F650 Dakar. But there's an increase now to add the 800GS

Mmmmmmmm

:beerjug:

Consolidated: F650/F800 insurance

I wondered whether any new F650GS owners had had any trouble getting their bike insured. I pick mine up on Thursday but most of the insurers I've tried so far only list the '08 F650GS as a 652cc model [yep, sure was a bright idea that numbering lark BMW!].

The only people so far who can find this year's 650 are Devitts [naturally] and they're a bit expensive - they quoted me £280, whereas Bennetts quoted me about £145 for the F800 GS

What are your experiences?

Have you asked your bikes salesman if he can give you a BM quote? Might be a lot cheaper than the others, and they should recognise your bike has two cylinders

ha my first comment....why dont you check go compare.c0m
i have been on their and a restricted 650gs with 1years no claims bonus and third party only is £500 odd pounds

BMW do fixed rate fully comp insurance on it's entry level bikes.

The only reason I can afford the 800GS is because the insurance is so cheap, for me - age and post code are not in my favour.

Snippet from their website:

Model-specific Schemes
BMW Motorrad Insurance offers exclusive schemes for specific BMW model bikes. All model-specific schemes provide fully-comprehensive cover and offer the same protection and benefits as other BMW Motorrad Insurance policies.

"Please note that these schemes are not available online and can only be arranged via the number shown. Conditions apply.
F650 GS
Riders aged 26 and above: £230 per annum
Riders aged 21-25: £460 per annum

Call today on 0845 606 6354 to speak to one of our BMW Motorrad Insurance specialists."

I think the above prices are for the 650 single and would advise calling the number and asking as a guide though the 800GS insurance if £285

Try these guys..

http://www.hrinsurance.co.uk/HR_insurance/our_history.asp

I have had my bikes with them for many many years and my cars too. They have always been the cheapest on renews etc and they are UK based.
Their operators are in Aberbeen and not India..

Well worth a ring for any bike.. they are a broker, and I have even been through an accident claim with them for the car when I was hit.

Top company in my book. :thumb

It's left the factory...

...and more importantly I can take advantage of the fixed rate insurance.

Last week I phoned up to get the insurance process started only to find out a CD10 was going to exempt me from the very tasty fixed rate price. I was absolutely gutted, quotes were coming out at around £1400  :nenau and was throwing up the possibility I might not be able to afford it :spitfire:tears

So after spending a couple of days getting more and more depressed doing online quotes, I called Vines and spoke to Bryan in the finance dept. he said he'd call his contact and see what he could do. Well Bryan is my new best friend forever :hug 'cause he called me earlier today and said it was all sorted at the fixed rate and gave me an online quote number. :bounce1 :clap

So, I'm a very happy chappy, and barring any other disaster :aidan in about 10 days I'll be picking up my beast.

Wow - u london dudes really pay for the privelege of living there!!!

I got £236 for living in the stix - and that was with zero no claims bonus.

Yeah, I have a lot riding against me when it comes to insurance, young, crappy postcode, dirty license, expensive bike.

The fixed rate deal has been the only way I can really afford the bike.

BMW quoted £285 and would not budge from that price , Carol Nash did it for £171
