50W, although 35 would do the trick i'm sure. dark? don't you have the touratech aux lights on yours Terry?

aux lights on a 650/800

all

bit of a plug for Nippy Normans...... but a handy bit of information:thumb

just wired a set of auxilliary "driving lamps" to my Bro's 800GS

i used one of Nippy Normans AS6B Autoswitches *specifically for the 2005- on 1200 range of BMW's...

whats an autoswitch? well....... press and hold the indicator cancel switch for 5 seconds and it switches an "aux system" on...... press and hold 5 seconds.. it switches it off:thumb (a quick dab still cancel's the indicators)

yep! Bob's spots are switched on/off by the indicator cancel button:thumb

oh! orange/yellow from the AS6B connects to Blue/White from the indicator cancel button

AND...

if you are wondering what happened to my 800GS spotlight brackets.....
i had grave reservations about the fixing points i used for Bobs brackets.. the reservation was... the brackets are way way stronger than the fixing points.. even in a minor "off" the brackets would have just ripped the inserts out of the plastic subframe and headlight:eek: a complete redesign is in prototype form as i type (oh it suits the 650 twin too:thumb) i have been overwhelmed by demand for my 1150 brackets and thats the reason for the delay

Lights on F800GS crash bars?

Has anyone mounted any fog/driving lights on F800GS crashbars?

Will it work or is there some reason why it couldn't be realistically done?

aux light toggle switches

Found this thread on the 1200gs page;
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128781&highlight=toggle

I'd like to add the TT HID left aux light to my 800GS. I rode with someone last weekend that utilized this light as an additional driving light in concert with his high beams - his high beams were always on. Couldn't believe how bright the HID light was - couldn't be missed

I'd like to wire TT's light to work with my low beam with an additional on off switch attached to the handlebars. This way it's always on during the day and easily turned on/off as needed at night.

Question, I've only found thee switches to mount on the handlebars;

1. A cheap one from an auto store jerry rigged.

2. The one shown in the above linked thread from Les Wassall (2nd post)

3. One from 800depot a bmw fitted switch that is really expensive. http://f800depot.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=276

Can anyone point to others?

Thanks

Thunder, thanks, exactly what I was looking for! May I ask, what is the zip tie for on top of the switch, is it part of the switch?

There is also the auto-switch from nippy norman which utilizes the indicator cancle button (hold for 5 seconds and aux lights come on and again hold for 5 seconds and they go off) and a quick dab cancels the indicators as usual.

650 2008 Which Bulb

I want to replace the headlight bulb on my 650 which is currently in production so hopefully should be with me soon. But I couldn't find anywhere which type it uses. Is it H7?

Are the bulbs easy to replace or should I get the dealer to do it when they pdi the bike?

only the last time i had to do it it took me 3 hrs but it was a suzuki!

Very easy to do - the owners manual details how. Took me about 2 mins to replace both standard bulbs with high output Philips Extreme H7's.

If you're thinking of carrying spares, buy high outputs and keep the standard H7's as spares - not much cost difference. :thumb2

Should be easy :thumb2

Looking over the handlebars the dipped beam is on the right. Look for a circular plastic cover about 6 or 7 cm in diameter. This is the cover over the dipped / parking light filaments. This twists about 15 to 20 degress anticlockwise to undo and has serations on the edge to help. Once the cover is off the dipped filament is held in by the normal spring clips and has a connector on it. If you need any more help at this point, I'd ask someone to help you the first time ;)

Don't forget to not touch the glass bits of the filament, unless you want to change it for real.

HID and Warranty

Have ordered the HID kit (and crashbars) from Adventure Spec.
Would the dealer regard fitting of the HID kit as invalidating the warranty? He has a sign on display saying work performed by non authorised BMW personnel will invalidate the warranty. I could always get him to fit them I suppose...
Anyone any experience of this?

well, the first thing i did when i got my 800 was fit HID's myself. since then i've had a raft of warranty work done and the dealer has said nothing...

i work in the car industry and generally something like that wouldn't invalidate a car being covered. if the warranty claim is directly linked to the headlamp unit, they may give you some grief on it, but i'd say you're safe. they're just trying to get more work through their own workshop!!!
