► Lights, indicators, electrics and alarm

My zumo is connected to the canbus under the faux tank cover. The autocome is wired into the brake light setup at the rear and lives where the bmw alarm would normally live.

For anything else I just use the power socket and have a car cigarette light adapater for ipod, phones etc. Now that I have mp3's on the Zumo the ipod has take a back seat really. (no pun intended)
 
Strobe lights on F800 GS

I'm considering fitting these to the hand guards and perhaps down on the cross bar of the crash bars for those moments when you might want to filter or draw attention to yourself when you get a motorist who has that look where they appear to be looking through you and not at you.

I realise flashing strobes are not legal. I'm thinking of wiring them up to a centech fuse box and have a dedicated switch in addition to the mode selector.

Someone had strobes at the Touratech Travel event and I wondered if anyone else has them or has photos/video of them in action aside from the stuff already on YouTube? :D

I have often had the same "illegal" thought and look back to the days when I had handheld strobe torches on the boat. I seem to recall them running on 2 AA batteries and you just twisted the base to activate

They were of course all round lights but I suspect one could put a short length of plastic tubing over the end to make them directional so that the pulses would bounce off the vehicles ahead and into their mirrors

A suitable system on the handlebar would allow you to instantly de-mount it if Mr Plod came to investigate - once in your hand I think the setup would be quite legal

This one seems to be less than £15
 
Strobe Lights??

Hi new here to UKGS so don't want to upset the locals but STROBE LIGHTS on the handlebars taking it a bit to far!. I am all for bike awareness but what next bubble wrap and cotton wool.

Sorry to pi:pissl of anyone but just stop worrying and ride the bloody bike.

where do you get them from i need a set for a pick up:thumb2
 
I like the idea, and might even do it, but the one thing i wont do is fit anything that has blue lights in it. apparently its impersonation of a police officer, and they dont like it (up em,captain mainwaring). I know this as i nearly got busted for having a set of what i called "WHITE" strobes in my old astra. I told pc plod they were wired up to the car alarm, but he had a distinct sense of humour failure (is this a typical copper then???) sat me at the roadside for ages, pulled the car to bits removed ALL my stuff from the car, then buggered off, leaving everything at the side of the road. As he left I'm certain he was having a wry little smile, and possibly laughing, at my stupidity/indiscretion.. Live and learn huh........

the ones in the video are the smallest. You could really knock yourself out and look like a spaceship from close encounters of the third kind with the stock he has.

I wont do the blue, red or white lights either. Plus the amber go with the black and yellow theme of my bumblebee 800GS.

I measured the dimensions on a piece of paper today and I reckon they will fit nicely either behind the windscreen (although they may be too near to my Hid's to be effective) or in little cutouts on the spoilers of my handguard's. The wiring would be easy to conceal and run down with the rest of the wiring.

If they are good I might run another four just under my rear rack
 
There was a lad on the fords run at the East Midlands event this year who made his own strobe setup (amongst many other fancy farkles) but I can't remember his name. :blast
I think it was his sister who was riding the cruiser.
Anyone know who I'm talking about? :nenau

I wonder if that was the same guy who was at the Touratech event. That guy said he made them himself from various bits and bobs cobbled together
 
on strobe lights and pimpin' the ride

and here i thought it was time to take down the christmas trees? jon, where will you put the fairy, on the TT windshield extension or on the rear rack? :hide:augie

precisely!!! i was waiting for you to say 'on the saddle'! surely after 50W HID's you don't need anything else? i have them and constantly get flashed by oncoming cars who think the main beam is on, so anything else would just be unnecessary bling, the money for which would be better served saved for a monstrous trip...:cool:

Happy New year to you too. Don't worry the monstrous trip is already on the cards. 100 days and counting. :augie :beerjug:

p.s I've angled my Hid's down and left but they are almost a bit too low. It's a fine line to get it right. I also keep a greater distance between me and the car in front now and angle the bike towards the kerb when stopped so as not to blind the driver in front. The only time this it doesn't work is when on a dual carriageway in the right hand lane. The driver to my left get's it one way or another.
