► Lights, indicators, electrics and alarm

For info...

Just had three days up to Bonnie Scotland on the F800GS, and as usual, I got caught in a blizzard over the tops from Alston to Middleton in Teesdale on the run home yesterday :eek:

For three days I ran with the dipped headlight 55W beam on, a 55W aux fog/daylighter on, heated jacket and heated grips :rob

The alternator/battery coped admirably :thumb

800GS Spotlights

Hi all hope someone can help? Im preping my brothers 800gs for a round the world trip & am having trouble getting the spotlights to work, they are wunderlich & im useing an AS6B switch ive tried wiring it to the cancel wire (white with a blue tracer) at the ecu block (as 1200gs fitment) & allso at the loom on the left of the bike but no luck they work if i tap the wire directly on the batt so am i trying to connect it to the wrong wire? The wire coming out of the handle bar switch seems to be blue with a white tracer but cant find that in loom! Any help much appreciated.

I've fitted the the wunderlich spotlights to my F800GS - they are the specific ones for the 800 from Nippys - are these the ones you are fitting or are they generic wunderlich spots?

The 800 specific ones wire direct to the battery with a relay wired into the back of the headlight wiring loom so they only work when the ignition is on.

Yes they are the 800 ones from nippys but im wiring it through an autoswitch so they can be turned on/off using the indicator cancel button doing away with the toggle switch

I just went with the toggle switch. Works ok but I might change it for swith gear that matches the oem stuff... I've seen some advertised somewhere that look quite neat.

I was keen to put spotlights on mine but the dealer told me the battery would never cope with them?!

Spot/Fog combination

Hi guys, i have fitted the Touratech HID Spot & Halogen Fog setup with mounting plate on my 800 GS, the battery & alternator copes no problem, & the lighting is amazing, bearing in mind on full beam in winter i have the heated grips,extra fog lamp, dip, main & the HID spotlight on all at the same time. it must be close to max output from alternator but seems to cope ok.
to further reduce amperage load i will eventually fit proper HID's to the headlight as they draw less power.

Btw, love my 800GS, very capable of most things.. i even do the sunday mornin bike meets for breakfast & a chill out. Also gonna do a few weeks in spain/france ski areas again this summer.. :beerjug:

wunderlich Spots

I've not had any power issues with the Wunderlich spots.

Used 'em quite a bit and don't notice any power drain on the main lights or any lack of power in the battery when starting;

Couple of pics taken at Willingham Woods yesterday;

Did you fit the brackets the right way up or decide your set up is more suited?

Milky Headlights

After my trip to Morocco and bike F800gs taking a water dunking (not total submersion), the headlights lenses have gone milky. Speaking with the dealer about the problem and hoping for a warranty fix i was told. I appears you have driven your bike through muddy watercausing the discolouration - sorry no warranty fix.
Any thoughts, help, second hand clear headlights.

PS the RIMS are soft, and there are as of yet no after market substitutes.

What was you thinking of.... taking an 'unstoppable' offroad designed motorcycle through a bit of water... are you mad:augie

Same problem(ish). I bought some Touratech fogs and then dropped my bike in a waterspash in Morocco. Now one of them is dim and foggy. I can't get into the light to give it a good clean.

Moral of the story is... if ya put ya lights underwater, clean them and dry them right away! You have been warned :rob

Brake / Rear Lights?

Anybody had a tweak at the brake / rear lights? Mines packed up today & the Riders manual says diddley. Any hints & tips?:nenau
