Our tail light has died too

Sorry to hear that, the tail light on my wifes GS800 has also died.
We have a riding buddy who had to wait 6 weeks for a new tail light on his GS800, so we dont expect a quick fix either.
Might be something to keep a watch on, might be the start of a string of failures. Our bike has only done 3800km.
Cheers
Tony

had to wait 6 weeks for a new tail light on his GS800,

!!!! 6 weeks !! I wont be verry happy if thats the case. It seems to be such a sh1te arrangement for such a fundamental piece of kit. I havent yet worked out how to get to it, never mind diagnose the problem!

I'll see what the dealer says tomorrow (Bank Hols here :nenau)

Headlight Fixing

Just returned from touring Majorca last week, check your headlight fixing, mine managed to loose both bolts from each side of the headlight !!!.

If anyone is on the island of Majorca this summer with their bike give me call. If you just go on holiday and want to hire a bike I know of a great place in Fellanix that rents GS 1200`s and 800`s and also does tours of the island and off-road training.

bolts working loose is not exclusive to the 800 GS. Loctite 243 Lock and seal is a cheap method for assuring peace of mind :thumb

Spotlights on F800GS

Hi all you helpful GSer folks

I'm lucky enough to have a fine set of spot lights with HID conversion kit (from that nice Mr Les) and also lucky enough to have a fine Mr Badger who's prepared to fit them for me...

Here's the query...the F800 already has the HID headlight conversion (also Mr Les's great gear) with the ballasts and igniters tucked up under the top edge of the front fairing and so now we're not sure where to put the ballasts and igniters for the spots....anyone done this fit already or got any (useful and polite!) suggestions..??:confused:

I have searched the forum but come up with nothing helpful but do pardonez moi if I've missed something from previous threads...

HI Madame B

Don't know is this is helpfull but i am just in the middle of fitting the touratwonk spotts and they suggest putting the relay/ ballast behind the radiator close to the stater relay.

Hope this helps

Rich

HIDs- double or single?

I found a local bloke who fits motorbike HIDs.

Do I get high & low beam HIDs?
Or do I just go for low beam with a bright bulb in high beam?

I went for both on my GSA.

And then removed the main beam, as have a few others.

Great when the light has been on a few seconds, but  when you want instant main beam (after a car passes etc) and it just doesn't provide it.
A brighter/whiter bulb is the way ahead on the main beam IME.

Ask yourself two questions....

1) Do I want it?
2) Can I afford it?

If the answer to both is a 'yes' then go for it :thumb

If there's a 'no' in there then don't :nenau

Simple eh!

Agreed with 2nd poster...

I had a twin HID set up... but even with the 'new-fast-slimline' 50w ballast on high beam it still wasn't quick enough ... I removed the high beam and replaced the 'old' bulb, but will probably try and find one of those Phillips high output bulbs...

Lost mine yesterday. Wish I had done the loctite thing now. Ended up using a grab rail bolt, as a replacement, to get me home. Had to borrow a tool to undo it though, the one in the tool kit only gave me an inch of leverage and my fingers aren't that strong. :augie

All my torx screws and bolts are fixed in with blue loctite as its only medium strengh.
