Oil Change On An 800 GS

HI its a bit of an ask, going to do an oil change on my replacement 800 tommorow but I've left the hand book with the dealer can any one with an 800 Gs have a look in the hand book and tell me what the amount of oil I need and any other info advise that the book gives on changing the oil and no I'm not going to ask what oil as we could be here all night...

First entry on good old Gooooooooooogle's "800GS oil capacity" gives you this:

Linketty link link link

Otherwise, run the engine until it's hot (makes the oil flow better), make sure you've got summat to catch it in, a replacement oil filter and a tool to remove the old one.

And don't forget to put the sump plug back in before you pour in the new oil. Don't ask me how I know that. :augie

Cheers, both links work and do the trick I know what I'll be up to tomorrow... and Monday I'll go pick up the handbook...:comfort

Brake pads

Hi there,

Anyone knows where I can buy brake pads for the rear brake, a good brand and what the specific model is?

I was out on the trails today and all of a sudden my rear brake started doing funny noises when braking. When I looked at the pads they had completely worn out! :nenau

Thanks a lot in advance!

Ernesto

Maybe.. but I have been out a docen of times before and it never happened... maybe they were quite worn before going out and I didn't noticed.

On fleabay here for £18.97

Thanks for the link! I have bought a set today.

Cheers!

How is anyone finding the "service due" date indicator or initial ignition switch on is corresponding to the next service in old money eg 6000 miles?

In theory if I keep on doing the current average miles per month it'll be due a service at 14 000 miles

My GS911 tells me the next service is due at 6340 miles or 5th May 2009 - I've currently done just over 4000 in 10 months.

The GS911 doesn't replicate the Trip Computer info - it covers the engine management and other electronic systems. See here

Pity then I could have seen what the correlation was between the GS911 and the RID :(

I reckon you bought your bike on about the 5th May 2008? I bought mine in Nov 2008 so that is covering the "annual part of the service". But on miles, assuming it uses an average then you'll have done almost 16 months to get to 6340 at 400 per month, but would be at 4800 in 12 months. Not any clearer is it :(

The bike was bought early April 08. The 5th of May will be around 12 months on from the original 600 service.

6k miles or 10k km

After the initial 600 mile service, it's every 6k miles or annually.

Looking at the rider manual, it does not mention the specific distance - just "for higher mileage, it will let you know 1000km before it's due"

Thanks for that. What I was after was the specific service items / together with mileage / time intervals for carrying them out. It's the stuff that you pay your friendly BM dealer shedloads to do at either an annual or inspection service, as appropriate.

Found one for the F800S & ST on the web. But want clarification that this also applies to the newer 800GS.
