If it was a legit BMW dealer service @400 miles, then doing it at 600 is a bit pointless. I would assume that the previous owner decided to service a little earlier. The 600 benchmark isn't set in stone at 600.

Having said that - it would be a good 'piece of mind' service to get it done again. Funds allowing I'd be tempted to get BMW to give it the once over.

Bear in mind there have been a number of recall/update issues surrounding the GS800....

For example, i had the 600 mile service done at 700 miles. (I bought the bike with 196 miles on the clock) the previous owner - a good friend of mine - told me that the software had been updated and all the recalls were up to date.

At the first service I had to get the ring antenna and a couple of other minor bits sorted under warranty (all recall issues). No worries, all is well.

About two months ago, my mate contacted me to let me know that BMW had contacted him to tell him the torque settings needed checking on the rear sprocket.....So even though the bike had been serviced under my name at 700 miles I had still slipped under the radar whe it came to a recall notification.

So i suppose the moral to this is even though the bike may have been serviced - it doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be contacted if there are any outstanding tweaks that need doing. So even if you decide not to service the bike again - contact the dealer regarding recalls.

Hope this helps.

Also hope it makes sense...i'm pished.

The bike was purchased from Lind Motorrad in Norwich. It is an 09 model with 535 mile on the clock. In all honesty the sales guy was really nice. Perhaps fatigue on my part after driving 300 miles in my van has lead to me to forget to ask more questions.
Anyway, now you guys have given me ths assistance, I can contact them again .

What involved in the 6000 mile service?

Just got back from Morocco :) and my bike just clocked up 10,000 miles. It's not had a service since 600 miles (was at 4000 when i left). I called BMW to book it in, but they cannot do it until 19-Jun :eek

Was involved in the 6,000 mile service. I way well do it myself.

Air filters - to change
Oil change - to change
Oil filter - to change
Brakes, chain, sprockets all look good
Water, brake fluid levels all good
Diagnostics show a single ABS fault which reset itself and never reappeared.

What else should i look at / change?

Where can a buy filters etc?

Rgrds,
Steve.

Just to answer my own question (2) in case somebody else has similar.
The answer is ... buy a new one for £16 and it just clicks into place. If the mounting pins are bent they aren't going to bend back!

Thanks Tim :thumb2
As it happens I discovered the sat nav wiring I wanted to get rid of was from a white "canbus" plug so was very easy to remove.
Bit annoying to require a dealer ecu setting (current date/date of next service) if you disconnect the battery though.

How can i reset the service indicator?

Just got back from Morocco and i'm 3000 miles beyond the 6000 miles service :-) BMW cannot book me in until end June, so I decided to do it myself (didn't want to ride for another month on 9000 miles oil). So, oil, filesters, etc, etc all done. I going to write it in the log book and reset the service indicator :augie

How to i reset the service indicator?

I'm sure the service information will be stored in non-volatile memory like the mileometer. Might need to disconnect the battery for years :tears

I guess the answer is buried here http://www.biketec.ie/compare.html

Have you asked a BM service manager ;)

I'd reckon about 7mins, that being the difference between the bikes clock and reality after the service. And the "service" indicator wasn't showing anymore.

Spark Plugs

Does anyone have any DIY help/instructions on changing spark plugs? I have searched several forums and can't find any info

That was exactly the difference in the clock on my bike, too.
7 mins. I thought they just forgot to reset the clock when they were
monkeying around during the 20,000kms service, but it also was the difference the last time at 10,000kms. And again I have to read the damn manual to remember how to reset the minutes on the clock!

Torque settings for BMW Alu bash Plate

Hi - could anyone please tell me the torque settings for the BMW Aluminium Bash Plate fitted to my 30 Yrs Anniversary F800GS?

Thanks. David :flag

Guys as mentioned in here before you can disconnect the battery for as long as you like and it won't reset the servicej indicator, I mean come on do you think BMW are that silly.

I bought a GS 911 tool to reset mine and not be reliant on the dealers as prefer to do it myself.

Short answer is there is no way of reseting the service indicator without a tool unless someone knows different.

Happy to sort out anyone local for a small fee though.

Torque settings for a bash plate......... Guys come on gjet with the program.

Happy riding

Mark

Do it by feel - 8nm is bu**er all - use a nice little spanner and point your little finger so it doesn't wrap round the spanner.
