Scorpion MT90

I realise they do a MT90 in 140/80 but I don't want to make the bike taller! Currently the back tyre is 150/70.

(TKC 80 too macho for road use)

dont under estimate the TKC 80's. i have them and they are just as good on road as they are offroad. im not sure if you have actually fitted them and used them but i can tell you if you do go offroad you wont want anything else. if you are a tarmac lover then fair enough, they're overated for tarmac alone.

cheers

Hi
I prefere Michelin Anakee or Metzler Tourance, very good road tyers wet or dry.
Good on gravel roads too,but not as good as the TCK.
Its as always a trade off ,exelent road tyres\medium off roads against exelent offroad\medium on the road.

Thanx peeps

Hi again
The Sirac don't do the size, same problem as the ones I want: MT90s. I don't want to have a taller bike or a narrower back tyre.
The Anakee looks a bit like the road tyre mine came with, not a bad tyre at all but I was hoping for something s bit more all purpose. I used the TKCs on our Morocco trip and I LOVED them, off road they gave me huge amounts more confidence.
I used the Trailwing before they were pretty good.
Now I've seen the Metzeler Tourance, they do the size, I'll have to look at price and availability.
Catherine.

I got stuck in light mud on with Battlewings on a light trail ride. Mud was neither deep not very wet. I have decided the BWs are going to go. I have a buddy with TKCs on his 950 KTM and he loves them. My only concerns is how the TKCs will do on wet tarmack? Any info would be great.

the only thing to look out for is the first rain, need to be gentle when the oil on the road is sitting on top she wants to spin out. in the wet consistantly for 200klm and had no issues, just need to rude to suit the conditions.

cheers :D

I ride my R1150GS every day, whatever the weather and at present have TKC80s on. I wouldn't normally use them in the winter but finances stopped me changing to my normal winter tyre.

When the TKCs are new, you will sort of "fall" into corners. As they wear down a little this changes and they're fine.

They are great in mud, they are even really good in snow (not that I want to do that again:) ). But in the rain, I have found them not so good. They are very twitchy and prone to the back end losing a bit of grip on bends this being due to there being less actual rubber contact with the tarmac on a TKC80 than on other tyres.

If you ride on various terrains and in varying weather the TKC80s are probably the most suited. But, for personal preference, as I don't do offroading in the winter I have to say Metzler Tourances are the best for riding in the wet.

I'd say enjoy your TKCs but be aware they can catch you out when it's raining.

Obviously, the above is my personal opinion and tyres are a very personal choice so I'm sure someone else is going to come along and have had very different experiences from mine.:beerjug:

Heavy duty inner tubes

Hi,

I have been looking in to getting some heavy duty inner tubes for my F800GS. I have found some michelin ones that fit the front apparently (90/90 21) but can't find any for the back (150/70 17). The nearest I can find (from Michelins web site is 140/80 17 which I'm not sure would work). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Adrian

Apparently there are 4mm thick tubes that can be used with Metzeler Tubeless Tourance tyres on the 800gs i don't know if they are Metzeler tubes though.
I am sure if you contact Cambrian Tyres

They supply to the trade they will point you in the right direction.
Or contact Stuart at National Tyres Shambles Street Barnsley he is another excellent source of info.

what is your winter tire choice?

i used anakees this winter, and in snow ok ish , ice well ye know it went down:blast
its was black ice and only studds would of kept the 1100 up.

i will soon be changing my tires , so im looking for a good all round tire.. i ride mostly back roads on tarmac, usualy tractor mud every wear .
i was thinking of fitting "trial assists " to the 1100.
i ride every day so wet conditions will come in to the equation .

anyone had good experience with the trial assists?

i think u will regret a change to more offroad style rubber, in the summer anyway, you ride too fast for knobblies

I've just googled Trial Assists and came up with nothing - do you have a manufacturer or a proper name for the tyre?

I've just put 200km on my TKC80's and I think they're going to be ok, but I'm still reluctant to take too much p1ss out of them in the wet.

Bike did an interesting comparison last year. They tested 'big trail bike' tyres at Bruntingthorpe on an R1200GS..... the times were interesting to say the least! From fast to slow they were:

Avon Storm/Azaro combination: 11:17:75
BT020 1:17:85
Metzeler Roadtec M6 1:18:05
Michelin Pilot Road: 1:18:75
Conti Road Attack: 1:18:54
Conti TKC80: 1:18:75

The 020's were given the best overall rating in terms of feedback and overall performance, but the TKC80's were only a second behind... yes, just 1 second!! The tester did comment that the rear was spinning in all but 6th gear and the front was 'pushing' a lot (what exactly does that mean?) but to be only a second behind a proper road tyre like the 020 is staggering! He must have the bike control skills of a god, but it just shows what the good ol' Twinduro can do...

TKC's are not an all out off-road tyre enduro tyre. They are exceptionally good on dry roads and i have found that i can push them as hard as the tourances or battlewings. i had more tank slapping moments in the wet on my tourances but that's probably because i'm more careful and aware with TKC's in the wet. They just won't last a very long time in the summer...but hey, what's 4 tyres per season between friends :(
