GS800 Anakee 2 front V rated

Need a Anakee 2 front V rated, anyone any ideas, does not seem to be any in the Country and Michelin are saying mid July possible (not definite delivery),

Thoughts steers appreciated, thanks :nenau

Your better bet may be to get the Anikee (one's), as the Anikee 2's for the front are quite new. The rear's have been around for a little while.

I've been using this combination since Sept.

RE Anakee 2's V vs H speed rating

Still no luck, have found a supplier that suggesting that might be abk
le to get the H rating (OK for sustained 130 mph).
Bike spec says V rating - so concerned that may effect my insurance?
Thoughts?:nenau
Thanks Ewen..

The TKC's fronts are S or T (111/118mph) rated and these are BMW approved. The rear TKC is Q (99MPH) so i wouldn't expect the faster H of the Anakee would cause an issue with Insurance. :comfort
- can these bikes (or riders) actually go >130mph :nenau

I'm trying to remember if there was a requirement to put a 'warning' label visible to the rider reminding them of the max tyre speed...?

TKC 80 Pressures

Just put the TKCs back on the 800gs for the Humm in 2 weeks time but cant remember what pressures to run?!

Im thinking 32F/36R for road and then dropping 5-10 PSI for off-road.

Cheers

5-10 is too low unless you have rim locks!!

I used to use around 20psi with TKC's and they were fine.

On road I used to run around 29F 32R. They handle better when warm and lower pressures help get the temps up a little IMHO.

lol think you miss understood my post slightly.
Meant 'Drop the pressures BY 5-10, not TO'

Cheers

Road tyres

I spend all my time on the road (650GS) and am about to have fitted a pair of Michelin Pilot Roads (110/80/19 and 150/70/17). The rear tyre will lower the gearing a bit, but I hope the increase in grip will be well worth it (didn't like the old Battlewings in the wet).

Will let you know how I get on with them - off to Spain via France in 2 weeks! Can't wait!

:clap

Sounds ok to me ... :comfort

Just be careful on the terrain when you drop the pressures on a bigger bike. If there are any large stone blocks around you might dent a rim (like I did). I only drop them now if I know there is going to be a lot of mud and other slippery stuff around. Then it does make a big difference.I think we were on the HU ride out a few w/e back. Did your friend get her crash bars sorted?

Ho hum ...

You need a little more flex in the tyre for it to give decent grip on rougher terrain - I agree that you can't go so low, but I can only go by my wn experience which was an 1800 mile trip round Maroc, 75% offroad which I did on my then 950 Adv 'S' which had TKCs on ... 20-25psi in the front and 25-30ish in the rear. No problems, no punctures, no dents ...

TBH some rims (especially the BEHR jobs fitted to my Katy and my present 800GS) will dent if provoked at any tyre pressure. Excel do a 1.85 x21 rim that will accept the std tyre size ... but it's an expensive job!

Cheers

Enjoy your trip.

I'm going to France via Spain this weekend, and also can't wait.

Tyres

Hi everyone

I am debating on which tyres to put on to my GS 650. At the moment I have a pair of metzeller Enduro 3 sahara tyres on which are very good on the road, but was thinking of changing it to the Continental TKC80. Im going to be on the road a lot but love trail riding Green lanes on the weekends so kind of want best of both worlds.

Any advice?

trelleborg

try these, the BMW offroad school uses them, i've heard of people getting really great mileage and they are cheaper than the TKC's, also handle really well on and offroad.
give Gwyn a shout, he's a great guy

for the f650 i'd go for the E10's on the rear and T644 army on the front.
typical prices for an F800GS is £41 for the front and £85 for the rear, best to get Gwyns advice though.
this is the tyre we are using on all of our bikes on our trip to south africa.

hope this helps

TKC's - how deep when new?

Hi guys

I'm trying to figure out if I have enough tread left for an upcoming trip up to the peak district - round trip I'm expecting to be around 600miles, of which only about 100 will be off road, the rest on tar.

I measured tonight using a steel rule and I have about 3mm (max) of tread left on the two central lugs of the rear tyre. I've only done 2500miles on it but it has mostly been on tar unfortunately.

I just don't know proportionately, how deep the lugs were when new so i could try to do a rough estimate of how many miles I'm likely to get out of the last 2mm .....

Or am I being a tight b@st@rd and should I just spring for a new tyre:nenau
