Michelin Reinforced Inner Tubes - supplier

Hi guys thanks for the reply's, found Michelin Reinforced Inner Tubes, not sure what the difference is between reinforced and heavy duty? however they must be better than standard and Michelin are a known manufacturer...:)

Unfortunately I've only just seen them after coming back in from a two hour session in my garage having just changed a rear tyre! Oh well! I like the method of getting enough space to get the valve stem back in, I wish I had seen this earlier, if so I would still have skin on my knuckles :censor:
 
Road Tyres

Just back from a near 1700 mile ride throught France and Andorra into Spain and the Michelin Pilot Roads were brilliant in the twisties - and what twisties there were!

Didn't try them in the wet (though expect them to be much better than the Bridgestones I took off) due to a lack of "English" weather!

For people who don't venture of-road, I would recommend the Pilot Roads.

That tyre has won a lot of comparison tests and voted best in 2009 by ride readers :thumb2.

Inner Tubes

I'm after a recommendation for heavy duty inner tubes for the F800GS, for road and off road use, and also a recommendation for where to buy. Having triuble tracking down the right sizes. Thanks!
 
Finally got our dunlop TR91 tyres!

And what an upgrading of the bikes (my wife and I both ride F650GS's) they are, to sum it up, they transformed a blunt instrument into a precision instrument, a hacksaw into a scalpel. Finally the bikes show their full potential, and what a pleasure that gives, we experienced that in a 5 day tour to and in Luxembourg last weekend.
First impression was: hey, this feels relaxed, and so stable. As if I mounted a steering damper. With the Battlewings you're constantly making little steering corrections, which you are not aware of after a while, and gripping the handlebars quite tight to keep control. Now I hold the handlebars loosely, the bike is just going straight, bad tarmac, cobblestones, it goes straight. My wife said "I feel much less tired after a long ride". and "feels like you put cushions under my wheels, much more comfortable".
When turning into a corner you imagine a line that your bike should follow, with the BW's I was always 10-15cm's off, with the TR's spot on. In the wet, after a little while, you relax your tight ass and become confident, you feel the tyres grip the road, we had 2 days of rain, and no scary moments ever.
So far, I can't fault them, my riding pleasure has increased immensely, so what more do you want?? Yes, a few weeks off to do a looong trip...... :)
 
forgot to mention pressure!!

Tried prescribed 1,8/1,9bar from dunlop spec, much to soft, got weaving bike with 120+, think they just copied that from old F650GS 1-cylinder. upped it and 2.2/2.5 is fine, with 2.8 rear if panniers or pillion. greetz !
 
The Dunlop tyre for the F650GS is only H rated, the original equipment is V rated.

Don't you have a problem with insurance if using a tyre with lower rating than recommended by BMW ?

To follow the Law of BMW.
the tyre recomendations to the F650 GS twin as per bmw Rider's manual, page 101 tyre recomendations quotes: "Use only wheels and tyres aproved by BMW motorrad for your type of motorcycle."
page 133 has 3 recomended tyres as going to press 23.08.2007
the standard fitted tombstone, Anakee and tourance.

All 3 V rated 59V Front ,69V Rear

the ratings for speed being H 130 MPH and V up to 149 MPH


Lets not mention the TKC's :augie

personaly im much more comfy under the Ton especialy if i'm fully loaded and riding the drunken pig :thumb2

Anyone using the K60 Scout 140/80?

As per the title - Is anyone using the 140/80 Heidenau K60 Scout, as they're not producing the 150/70 in a 17" size yet.

As far as I know, it'll fit OK, but the profile will obviously be slightly different. Wondering how it might affect handling.

sory but i have to correct you there, i have been using the k60 in a 17/150 for the last 4500 miles, the back is about 2/3 worn now but has been a great tyre both on road, wet and dry aswell as offroad, its just starting to square off now and feels a little on the edge when taking tight corners, if you cant find one then mitas have just brought out their e10 adventure tyre out, almost the same as tkc but only £85, The bmw offroad school are using them so that must say somthing.

Back to the hiedis k60. they get an 8 out of 10 from me

Yeah, mine's an F800 too - Says so in my sig but my subscription has run out so you can't see it, didn't realise it had disappeared until I posted!

See, I'm all confused having read various posts on the board. As far as I can understand, Heidenau started doing a 150/70-17 in the original K60 line, but it didn't last long before it discontinued for some sort of legal reason. Very few places list it and those that do don't seem to have any stock. The new K60 scout which I think is a replacement doesn't show a 150/70-17 at the moment, just an 18 inch rim version in 150/70.

I'm been using TKCs for years, but the K60 looks like it hits the sweet spot for me as I always end up running them square on a 80 mile daily round trip to work and I think the K60 will give me a bit better longevity while still giving me the amount of grip that I desire when in the mud.

The Mitas E-10 looks a bit more Karoo-ish than TKC, but it's still a bit too blocky for what I want, but thanks for the suggestion.
