This might be old news so take it for what it's worth. I've seen this posted on other forums. It's a service bulletin from BMW usa for the 800GS regarding the update of CIP CD11.0/11.1 to CIP CD11.2
Date: May 2008
Bulletin #: 00 008 08 (031)

BMW Motorrad USA
Service and Technical
K2x, K4x and K7x models
Important Notes:
Models:
1) The CIP CD11.0 must be installed on the Group Tester One before starting
the update! CIP 11.1 update does not have to be installed on the GT1 before
installing this new update.
2) Other data carriers have to be removed, especially all devices which are
hooked up to any USB-port of the GT1!
1) Start suppression of the K72 (F 800 GS / F 650 GS) caused by an implausible signal
from the side stand switch (symptom: engine cuts out when first gear engaged).
2) Occasional cold start and idling problems on R series vehicles
3) Following programming of vehicles equipped with CAN bus (K2x, K4x, K7x), the
odometer in the instrument cluster flashes and fault code memory entry "0x9335"
is shown in the CIP final report.
