My Sept 05 1200 GS 6,000 miles only had a flat battery on a cold winter day, but I commute every day 6 + 6 miles and that's demanding for the battery.

It's demanding of the bike in general I'd say

same as mine then !!!

Your '06 sounds ther same as my '04 bike with 18k miles on.......................brilliant are'nt they :D :bounce1 :thumb :thumb

who opened that! my 04 GS was an absolute crock o' crap, broke down more times in twelve months than I have in the previous thirty years of riding (and lawdy I've owned a few nails!)
Took it back to the dealer, mutterings of fit for the purpose, total disgust in the product etc etc and low and behold! my 06 GS has been perfect (so far)... and its a much nicer bike to ride (except the tyres are crap, one bloody key, still no tool kit worth mentioning.....winge, winge)but it sounds nicer, seems to be a bit quicker (totally unfounded observation) and the ABS isn't quite as dramatic when braking over bumps......in fact its everything I wanted when I bought the first one. :clap

06 model bought in march 06. 7,500 miles, long trip to europe and a few local thrashes as well as the odd commute. Nothing what-so-ever wrong, well apart from indicator bulb, and new rear anakee at 6000 mls. fuel ranges from 38 - 55mpg depends on how it's ridden. But overall I'm well happy with it. Does lack a little bit oomph when two up but only if you try to push on!! Excells at high/mid speed cruising/cornering ....... Brilliant!! :thumb
