1 day old R1250GSA battery failure....Not happy

If anything is going to fail its most likely to be when its new or nearly new. Its only a battery just imagine how you would feel if the camshafts lunched themselves in the middle of nowhere. Get over it, shit happens.

OP, I would be a bit pissed off as well if I were you, you were "lucky" with your circumstances, in that you weren't in the arse end of nowhere, in a storm, in some 3rd world country after the 1st day of ownership, but that's about it. :thumb2. Make sure the dealership are suitably embarrassed ( if that's possible)
 
It's shitty luck but it can happen to any make or model of vehicle. My son's brand spanking new Honda NC 750X, all farkled up north of the 10k mark (!!!!!!) had exactly the same issue ie battery duff from day 1. Everything else about the bike was - and still is - fine.

It's no reflection on the bike, which you'll be very glad you bought, once you've put this behind you and er, it.

Congratulations BTW, you're now the owner of one of the best bikes in the world :hippy:D

Under the sale of goods act, you are entitled to compensation as the vehicle was not fit for purpose as delivered.

An email explaining the facts, and time of delay for the bikes return, asking for compensation. An email is easily transferred to BMW Customer Services.

But don't accept no for an answer and certainly refuse a KTM as recompense.

ps. I have some previous. I rejected a £250k car that failed as I drove it away from the garage on day one! The law is on the consumer's side especially if you establish the vehicle was not fit for purpose.
 
My 2004 GS's battery discharged overnight 3 times in the first 2 weeks of owning it from new. Then the brake warning came on and the dealer was pissed off that I wouldn't ride it 12 miles to bring it in to be sorted. 154 miles, 4 problems and bad attitude from the dealer. BMW customer services sorted a refund and it was 12 years until I bought another BMW.

Shit happens. Fowlers and Honda profited from me instead.
 
We did have a dealer like that in Ireland. Funny he isn’t a dealer any more. Took him a while to accept that. JJH
 
Why didn't the dealer take a battery from one of the sales fleet, why did you have to wait until the next day for a battery replacement, they've done the right thing in getting you a new battery but should've kept you mobile on your new bike!!???

Think I'd rather just wait for a new battery, than have a second hand one, or be inconvenienced twice with two visits.
 
I wonder if they have recently changed the supplier and quality of the batteries (penny shaving) as this seems to be the pattern for BMW Motorrad now.

I think that there are plenty of examples of the Batteries failing in short time on new BMW

Tends to suggest that MNW are indeed shaving pennies as they will have told Yusa or whoever that they want XXX thousands of batteries for this XXX Deutsche marks so Yusa will have cut corners to deliver at that price and make a profit

Any way it is only a battery and easily fixed by the dealer but I would have expected them to fix it instantly with a good battery from an in stock bike

It is what KTM would have done and indeed did do with the fuel isolator on mine

I was thinking that. 10 minute job get the customer back up and running ASAP, put the ordered one on the showroom bike. THAT would have been better service. Unless there is a reason they won’t.
