1 indicator not working. help

My front left indicator is not working.
The story... first my head light blew, I replaced it then the front left indicator did not work, rode for 100mile. Get on the bike the next morning and it works again for 5miles then stops working again. Since then I have ridden 300mile and it is still not working.
They are LED, and as it worked again, the 'globes' are not blown. I believe that it is just a loose connection. I have had a look round the front end but I cant find any connection point, the wiring is pretty tightly packet in there.

Any help with where the connection points are, or where I should be looking would be great. Thanks

Blinking Hell, I dont have a clue but I'm sure some one will be along shortly with a solution, The LED's are usualy trouble free surely its connection

WD40 is your friend. Remove the unit & spray liberally (this word & moist need to be used more!), wd40 is non conductive so fully safe with electronics.

I've had a few insert LED units break (weiser make?), usually only a few led die before unit then..

I've had a rear led indicator fail, dealer swapped it under warranty.

I wonder if it was the cable as led's only need to draw low currents the wire is very thin and will probably break easily.

The connectors are pretty good so wouldn't of thought they would be easily dislodged unless it hadn't been connected properly in the first place.

OK, the LED indicators are getting power, but not much. The digital display/ speedo dispaly shows a 'LAMP' warning signal. The indicator itself does work, if you look very closely, but if you are not looking directly at it or at the right angle you will not see it.

I had time to have a detailed look. I found the connector. It is about 60mm behind the indicator itself hidden up in the faring. Not hard to find/see of you have a flash light.
By God I cant figure out how to disconnect it. I have tired every possible option I can think of. Have you achieved this feat?

Seriously though ... To disconnect indicator it's prolly easiest to take off the side cover - a 10 minute job - to get at the connector more easily. It will pull apart simply enough.

Where the problem lies after that though is anyone's guess ... I'd suggest swapping an indicator unit over .... (hmmm that means taking the other panel off - sorry!) to see if you havce a supply problem or a component problem.

I don't know if the LEDs are supplied with 12v which is then reduced with resistors within the indicator or whether the canbus is clever enough to deliver the 3.5v or whatever forward foltage the LED needs to function ...

Taking a guess ... I think your LED might have failed. If it were the resistor (if there is one of course) you'd probably not get any power to it at all - as you're gettign a teenyweeny glow there is some power getting through. If the canbus controlled it then it would be switched off and therefore no current. I think Paddy might have a point with the chance of a dirty connector - it might just be causing sufficient additional resistance to make them glow rather than light up properly...

Problem fixed under warranty (only a month or 2 left on warranty).
In the end it was the LED indicator failing. No idea why.

Additional information, before identifying the problem / fixing it the mechanic said that "the computer may record a fault". That to me suggest the it is CanBus controlled (also remember that there was a fault showing on the digital display).

Now i feel safer riding and better about riding. The indicator not working just gave the bike a cheap inferior vibe.
