Ok..I've got to source two 20" lengths of 8 mm stainless bar to make new supports as I can't fit the struts to the handlebars as they were originally intended.

Once I've got some, I'll be able to fit it and post a picture, maybe then you'll see what a fine looking screen it is and how well suited it will be to the GS.

I've had problems with air turbulance, but I hadn't mentioned it as I don't want to be seen as complaining about everything.

;)

GS Guy,if you can convert that old screen to fit the GS,you may be on to something. That turbulence you describe is caused by airflow around the screen.Everyone complains about it.Construct a stylish, effective screen...could be a marketing opportunity.
By the way, hows your gearbox.Any cracks?.Check out thread below yours.
Drive bearing OK?.

Hi Colban,

I've never had as much turbulance on a bike, my guess is that the rider is too far from the screen to fit inside the screen's slipstream.

I've had other bikes with screens and they haven't had problems like this.

I've managed to adjust mine now (by replacing all the bolts) and I've now got it a lot closer to me, my helmet isn't buffeted as much but the wind seems to swirl between my torso and the screen.

I saw several insects come over the screen and disappear out of view, only to reappear a few seconds later inside my helmet.

I assume they are swirled around and then forced up into my helmet.

Bizarre.

The touring screen I have is a good 6" taller than the 1150/1200 screen that has been fitted to my GS and is a good deal wider as well. It stands to reason that the slipstream from this screen is going to extend a fair distance further back.

I'll let you know how I get on.

I did have a more persistent rattle at one stage, caused by a sticking RHS camchain tensioner. I cured that by deburring it with some emery.

Good luck with yours!

I've done another couple of hundred miles and one of my persistent rattles is almost certainly coming from the RH camchain.

Any chance of some more details on how you cured this ?

Cheers.....

gs_guy,

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? I have one in similar condition and was offered £1000 part x so it's still in my garage.

With regard to the rattle that goes away when the clutch is pulled in, my vote is for the gearbox input shaft bearing. Apparently a common problem on 1100s. Had the same problem on mine. As it develops you also get a noise whilst riding, similar to having a tight spot on a chain-drive bike.

Regards,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I paid 2k for mine.

When you say 'had the same problem' does that mean it was in some way resolved ?

If it's the input shaft bearing, wouldn't the seal fail and let oil onto the clutch ?
