Hi

I'm just keen to know whether this is something that needs addressing urgently, or at my next service.

Symptom - only occurs when the bike is started from cold, when the throttle is blipped (at a standstill) I hear a squeek from the front of the engine. It sounds like a dry metal on metal noise and co-incides with the torque twisting of the engine.

After riding for a couple of minutes it disappears and does not return until re-starting the engine from cold once again.

My guess is that it's an engine mount that's somehow allowing movement around a metal to metal contact, and which 'nips up' when warm.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Paul G

PS Please, no ABS suggestions....!:D

OK - I'll dive in first...

Sounds like classic alternator belt noise - whip the plastic cover off the front of the engine and check condition / tension.

There aren't any 'engine mountings' as such - the engine is a part of the frame (sub-frames bolted on front and rear). I think if something was that loose, you'd have more problems than just a squeaking noise - however, no harm in checking them for tightness (you'll need a hex / torx bit on an extension bar and ratchet).

Great, yes I've done that on a previous bike, dead easy. I'll have a look, no harm in changing anyway...

Cheers

My 1100 does it too and it's a new belt on mine, the adjustment is fine so I just ignore it :)

Thanks Paul -

OK so it's looking very likely that it's the belt.

That's fine, a spare is easy enough to carry and I'm glad it's probably nothing worse.

I couldn't bear the thought of being the first ever 1100 to have something go wrong with it... he he! :thumb2
