1100 throttle cable conversion?

I'm about to change the fuel tank on my '94 1100 and while it's off, I intend to change the throttle cable (37,000 miles, original cable).

Mine is the old single 'daisy chain' cable and I've always had trouble setting good 'open throttle' TB balance with it - I've settled for a compromise in the end with good balance at cruising revs (3500 ish) but it has a bit of a buzz lower down.

I've heard that you can change the cable to the newer splitter box arrangement. Anyone done this? Is it worth while (and expensive)?. Do you need to change the twistgrip assembly too?

Any pointers gratefully received.

I think there was a thread here a couple of weeks ago where someone had to take a dremel to one of the frame brackets to get the bowden box out , so that must have been a converted one, there was mention of something different in the throttle body quadrants too.

Ah well - looks like it's a non starter if it requires a new throttle quadrant. Daisy chain cable it is...

yes, that was me. i renewed the throttle cables on an 1100 that had already been converted to the later system.

couple of problems:

1) the later frame has a different shaped pump connector bracket to enable the splitter box to slide out from under the battery tray without either taking a dremel to it, or removing the ABS unit.

2) i suspect the brackets that locate the cables at the throttle bodies must be different too, as i ended up with one cable on minimum adjustment, and the other at max. that was also how the old cables were set.

if it was me, i wouldn't bother with the conversion ;)

Thanks Stewart and Cookie :thumb2

As you say - I think I'll stick with the old single cable.
I already have a new single cable which I bought as a spare last year but if it had been straightforward I would have considered a change to the newer splitter arrangement.

It appears that it isn't that straightforward after all - well that's my weekend taken care of (tank swap, throttle cable change and starter strip / investigation) :D

I looked into it as well and fell foul of the throttle body bit. With some of the probs with disinegrating splitter boxes it's probably just as well...
