1100GS ABS DILEMMA

av replaced the rear brake link line from rear caliper to master cylinder , looks n only cost £21 delivered from motorbins.

my lights flash alternately wen i set off. (like other lad says wen its cold)
dnt wana stop coz its a bugger to restatrt engine wen cold..

jethro wot is the mod u are on about , is it the by pass battery thing , if so cud you pm me the info, if i cant figure it digger06 can , ta ugg.

Okay Ugg if the ABS lamp is only flashing alternately when you set off then you have an ABS fault,

The Mod I am talking about will only cure the Low Voltage fault, Basically if you turn on Your iginition and the ABS lamps flash together as normal???? Then you push the start button and the motor spins at the same time the ABS lamps start to flash alternately because the ABS II controller has detected low voltage and disabled the ABS and started the warning.

NOTE When You have flashing lamps or a single lamp steadily on on the instrument panel on an ABS II system BMW The ABS is disabled, or switched off and you only have normal brakes.

I used the Mod in this LinkyTo modify my ABS II system Instead of their relay linked to the alternator ( I didn't like that idea If the alternator belt breaks then you have no ABS) instead I used the Load shedding relay in the fusebox to take a power suppy forward to pin 15 with an additional fuse on this power feed just inside the fusebox

It's worked a treat and I never ever ever get that dopey warning, Well I can't it's brill

Basically by doing this When you push the start button the power is switched off then when you elease the start button the engine is already running and the ABS ECU does it's checks and everything is perfect.

NOTE II IF you do the method I chose then when you push the start button only one ABS lamp shows and as soon as you release the start button they flash normally again!

Ditch it.
I purchased a new R1100GS with ABS, seemed like a good idea at the time.
It took me about 12 months ( the warranty period basically) to decide to bin it.
Best thing I've ever done to the bike.
No more whirring, clunking, flashing, switching off, switching on.
A set of HH pads, a set of braided lines and a transformed braking system.

The number of times I had heart stopping moments because the bike decided to release the brakes because it decided that a little bit of gravel at junctions was causing a skid!

Honestly if you can ride and brake "on the pace" you don't need ABS. This bike stops fine without it.
Ok, if you're tired, on a long cold wet day, ABS might save you in an emergency. But, will it really? This is a bike not a car. A rider needs to be awake and alert.
Ditch it. You'll love the peace and will not miss the disco lights.

P.S.
I had some hoses made to my specs.
3 in total.
One from the front master to the RH caliper.
One from the RH caliper up and over the mudguard through the standard hoops to the LH caliper.
One from the rear master direct to the rear caliper.

You can then ditch all the other guff.

I did, recently. On eBay. A great tool for getting rid of the garage bits you don't need or want, but don't really want to bin "coz it'd be a waste".

I was surprised how much interest there was.

am still in two minds to scrap the abs,? some say itl devalue it..2nd hand abs is only worth 200 if that ,on an old 95 gs, so top range goodridge n some natty fixins will bring the price back up

best stop whinging n actually decide what im doin. keep it or throw (sell)
