Just found out the hard way that the little slots on the inside of the fuel tank filler are bloked some where.....water pissed into the tank after the bi-annual clean!!!!.

Can I just remove the filler unit after undoing the allen bolts while the tank is in situ and then lift the unit out to clean around the drain ways?

or am I into tank off etc.

Cheers

You're away from Ireland for three weeks and you wreck the bike. Can we let you go nowhere?

Dont know if it applies to diff ages of bike but i was able to do just what you suggested on my 94 1100gs with no problem other that the rubber o ring being a pain to refit but after a good clean and being left overnight it fitted fine
Hope this helps

Done it, great , no problems except I have discovered that all that lovely water never had anywhere to drain away to except the inside of the tank :eek

My fuel filler cap does not have any form of gasket or sealing ring around the outter rim....Should it?????

Cheers

Cheers Spout

It doesn't show any sort of seal on the filler cap.

I took the filler unitoff and turned it 180 as reccommended in another thread and in the process discovered that the "flange" that the unit is set into is all rusted with the paint flaking off and that there is mo way for any water that gets into this are to go except into the tank.

So tank off today, drain all the fuel and water out, tip the bloody thing upside down to get everything out and fill up with fresh.

I need to use te bike this afternoon so I will not risk removing the filter unit as I believe the O-ring may not fit back on???

Cheers
