1100gs rear suspension

I need to uprate my rear shock and can't afford a complete new unit. Being an XFB size (21st) I was looking for an uprated spring. I contacted Motorworks-BMW were hopeless- to be told that 1100gs shocks could not be rebuilt. Is this true? Can anyone help with advice/info?

Yes, the original Showa units cannot, AFAIK, be rebuilt.
That said, I recall reading about a geeze who dismantles them anyway, and reassembles them as fully rebuildable units.
ANyone else recall this, or better still, the name?

If you are seriously skint but still need a replacement shock, try Hagons - they seem to be the cheapest around, and IIRC you get the choice of spring when you buy it.
