hi everyone, bikes running rich at low revs and tickover.i,m about to do a tps check but before i do i,ve noticed that the brass screws on the t/body are only set at 1 turn out?could this be my rich running problem?anyone out there

My throttle body synch paperwork says start them at 2.5 turns out, synch the tickover and @3000 then turn them in incrementally together until desired idle speed is reached. that is the last bit though.

The brass screws adjust idle speed, nothing else. And it doesn't really matter how many turns in or out they are. You need however many turns it takes to idle at the speed you desire. I like my bike to idle at 800-900 revs, and couldn't tell you how many turns out the screws are.

Depending on the year of your bike it could be fitted with a lambda or a CO pot, which is what you adjust for mixture. You require a CO reading of around 2%

cheers mr steptoe:)bikes fitted with a lamda sensor(i,m gonna test it tommorow)i,ve checked plugs after a good 70mph run and ok,but aftera good 20-30mph run they are sooty and you can smell exhaust fumes at idle.

Always thought the brass screws adjusted the balance at idle :nenau I adj them first for perfect idle sync, then right side cable for balance at 3000rpm. been doing it wrong all this time:hide

yes mate, that sounds about right to me thats how i balance my throttles.unless we,ve both been doing it wrong:augie

i thought balance was the opening of the throttle butterflies in relation to each other. you can set the idle adjusters so one pot pulls the other, but that won't make a bit of difference to the balance as you open up the throttles.

The big brass screws adjust the balance it idle (when the butterflies are on their stops), balance off idle is done using the cable adjuster.

Whatever you do, don't touch the throttle stops - these are set in the factory using a flowbench and shouldn't need adjusting.

surely the idle adjustment will lift the butterflies off the stops a tad? Seems a bit of an odd setting.

i think he means the cable adjuster.

but i can see why you're confused.........

...its cos you're old :D

Its a normal state for me and being old gives me the perfect excuse for being in that state.

Cheeky fecker

Seems they do both, Idle and throttle sync :beerjug:
