Can someone interpret what freeplay is in relation to the throttle cable sheath and the adjuster found on the lhs throttle wheel? Is it free upward movement of the cable sheath out of the adjuster without any upward movement of the cable within acting on the pulley wheel? When tried on mine with needle nose pliers the sheath came out of the adjuster but the cable within moved simultaneously rotating the throttle wheel? Confused.

Ideally some play but very little is better, one indication seems to be the fast idle lever, if it has no effect then theres too much slack .

freeplay ?

amount the inner moves linearly within the outer cable before before moving the part its supposed to move.

can be measured anywhere on the INNER cable - outer is static.

i can't help you anymore :blast

Throttle cable adustment.

Thanks. Problem solved. I was getting an annoying backfire on closing the throttle. (I have the standard exhaust on the bike) On investigation and removing the throttle bodies from the inlet pipes and cyl. head I could see that the rhs one was just not closing properly. I gunked off off all the grime from the throttle body wheels and adjusters and gave the throttle a working noticing that the rhs one had stuck well open. On a closer look I noticed the cross over cable had come out of rhs pulley wheel (probably cos the bodies were not supported properly) but fortunately could plainly see the cable was on its way out and starting to lose its integrity. New cable ordered. Retrospectively thinking I had become aware that the throttle was taking a lot of my concentration at low speeds and down shifts especially when blipping, on a couple of occasions descending hairpins I stalled the engine (as well as locking the back wheel up) which frightened the missus a bit:augie
