Hi folks,

A general query for the collective please.

13 yr old 1150 gs, original clutch, 100k+ on it. Used daily. No issues with clutch itself, no slipping etc, however, recently noticed in last couple of days that the clutch lever does not always fully release after changing gear. By that I mean it doesn't always fully return to its normal extent...maybe an inch of travel left. If I then gently touch it it then it returns to where it should be. I've liberally wd40'd the hinge on the lever, still same.

Is this an indication of problems down the line? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Whilst I've never seen this, I've seen similar and the fault can be as follows;

1; Flush the brake fluid through and replace the fluid
2; Master cylinder seals are on the way out

But if you're replacing the fluid, it may be worth doing the master sylinder overhaul as well

Best of luck

Hydraulic clutch (certainly on my '03 1150) so the lever pushes a piston equipped with o-rings inside the handlebar cylinder also called the clutch master cylinder.

Dirt or wear can mean you get exactly the symptoms you describe.

Don't ignore it if it returns as it may lead to a slipping clutch, much pricier to fix.

The clutch lever gets pulled through it's full range everytime it's pulled and cleaned so there isn't any build up of crud or an edge on the inside of the bore as there can be on a brake lever which only travels a set distance along the bore each time it's pulled - which can lead to brake levers sticking, but rarely clutch levers..
